Mine would be when some punks harrased Gus and the family. I'll never forget when Gus woke up one morning to find his home spray painted and he said "this means war"

This one airs today on INSP. When David starts his curb painting business and gets harrased by college bullies.

Gus is such a loveable old cuss. I like how he was a nice guy deep down that was there for his friends and family, but it was also great to see him lose his temper and yell at someone.

I remember in the episode where he contracts diabetes.

Jesse: "Gus has been especially grumpy lately."
Joe Kaplan "how can you tell?"

This episode is from 1986 and is notable as the first time that I know of that Wilford Brimley says "diabeetus", and thus, a grand legacy is born. :)

as for my favorite episodese, I would say "Sounds from a Silent Clock" (the earthquake cliffhanger). Very suspenseful ending to the first part, and I think they could have done even more with the episode.

Yes that was a classic Joe Kaplan line and a good episode.
