What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions, past and present? You can name more then one tradition, even if somebody already mentioned it, but let's also try to get down as many traditions we can think of. It could be a family tradition or something you yourself or you and your friends love doing. Me, I love everything about Christmas. The tradition of going to my Mom's house for Christmas eve and having dinner and spending time their. I also love putting up, decorating and putting presents under the tree, making Christmas cookies, putting the stockings up, putting lights and decorations outside and more. Name some of yours and some overall Christmas traditions :) ...

I can't think of any past traditions that I still do, but I always said that when I got a house, I would decorate it every year(because when I lived in an apartment, you can only decorate that so much). So that's what I do on Thanksgiving weekend, and as the years have gone by, I have accumulated more & more lights. So now I overdue it quite a bit!!

I also like to stay home on Christmas Eve, don't like to go anywhere anymore. I don't even go to Christmas Mass anymore, but I know I should.

Christmas Day, just like being with family. It doesn't get any better than that.

OMG, I forgot about that!! I like to do that, too, and we, too, have a neighborhood called Hundred Acre Woods, 3 blocks from my house, that every house decorates. Then there's another neighborhood, they call their street Candy Cane Lane, and they go all out, too. It causes a traffic jam. I'm sure everybody's got a neighborhood in their area that does that.

Yeah I love looking at the lights as well...There a bunch of people around us as neighbors that do a great job. This one guy does an absolutely incredible job; I'll have to get a picture of it to show.

Becoming depressed. It's a recent tradition.

lmao I did that one year and I forced my sister and cousins to watch some of it with me. I think I was the only one that truley appreciated its humor.

I'd say just seeing my entire family. They're hilarious and extremely disfunctional, so it's always good times when they get together and get drunk.

Of course, there's also the decorations, especially the lights. I have a thing for lights. I just put some up in my dorm room yesterday and it makes the room 5334534 times more amazing than it was before. I want to be one of those redneck people who leave them up all year long lolzr. But it's always amazing to see them decorate the entire city. They put this massive Merry Christmas sign on the parking garage in my hometown, and a whole display all throughout downtown.

Going to the Grotto's Festival of Lights!! I can't wait to go again this year!!! :D

Going to midnight mass. This year I will be staying home XMAS eve and appreciating my tree with a big bowl of spaghetti (my fav. meal) either watching xmas specials (i save a christmas carol for xmas eve) and listening to xmas music.

I enjoy buying gifts, and, of coure, cracking out my fav Xmas episodes. I'm going to try to save my new Xmas Adv. of Ozzie & Harriet DVD for Xmas Day or Xmas Eve.

I love watching the movies, listening to the music, and on Christmas Eve, my aunt and cousin along with my granmother come over and we order pizza and open presents. Yeah, good times.

hanging the broccoli, greasing the mongoose, soaking the fruitcake for a month to soften it up before regifting...

I love all the movies and programs. I seen that South Park marathon the one year, it was great.

they have a special johnny carson xmas dvd out i want to get. i was too young to remember him when he was originally on (i was 10 when he left the tonight show) but i always watch the infomercial when they sell his best of dvds and he seems so funny. i also remember that small clip of him on home alone)

I love so much about Christmas. I love the songs, the decorations, the TV specials, you name it.

My favorite tradition growing up was the big meal my nana would cook on Christmas Eve, then the whole extended family would head off to Midnight Mass. We'd go home, gall asleep, and in the morning we'd open our presents.Then, we'd go to my grandma's house for another big meal and more presents.

i loved xmas eve when i was a kid. we'd go to my aunt adeline's house and she'd always have spaghetti for us to eat and aunt mary would have her rumballs. and me, my sister, and my cousins matt and luke would sit in her living room talking excitedly about what christmas presents we were expecting and we'd be goofing around while the adults were in the kitchen talking and laughing and arguing. she always had a nativty set on her coffee table but the thing is she left it up all year long so it would be covered in dust and she'd have one of those 3ft trees decorated on another table. and i remember how everyone would be dressed in their best clothes. my sister and me were always dressed in red or green. it was just a nice time. the smells of the food, the sounds of all the people together in the same room talking happily, now most of those people are gone. aunt adeline and aunt mary and grandma and grandpa and my mother and my aunt bonnie and uncle francis (matts and lukes parents) are divorced. just a memory now.

I'm the same, love everything about it. I'm definitely a Christmas guy, but I love the season, more then the actual day. Christmas day is awesome, exciting, fun and special- but I love the season.

And I love the specials as well.

I make Fudge, divinity, and Christmas cookies. I also watch a dvd with the Christmas episodes of my favorite shows, while in sweats, rob and drink hot chocolate.

that song always gets me too. that and 'over the rainbow' from the wizard of oz. i bawl like a baby upon hearing them. when i'm very sad sometimes i'll play one of those 2 scenes and end up crying harder.

OMG - it's like we're the same person! Both of them get to me (Over The Rainbow has to be one of my favourite all time songs).

The other 2 songs that send me over the edge everytime is Amy Sky's "I Will Take Care of You" (about a daughter and her mother) and Michael MacDonald's "Living Years" (I think of my father and our relationship).

Always Tomorrow used to make me happy. My ex and I both loved the Rudolph thing (we even bought sets of figurines at CostCo one year and set that up instead of a village). We'd be out Christmas shopping and just start singing it together as we walked through the malls. People though we were nuts but we didn't care. Now, this being the 2nd Christmas without him it's just sad for me.

:bighug: from me too. Just try to focus on things that take your mind off of it. Let me suggest playing The Sims. That always is a good distraction for me. ;)

Christmas Bingo, with my husbands side of the family. We each bring 5 small-priced gifts as prizes. The adults do this instead of exchanging gifts. It's pretty fun & you usually come away with at least one gift unless you are really unlucky. lol!

Thanks guys - I'm up and down and trying to keep my spirits up. Just don't be surprised if you see a few meant to be sarcastic/funny oddball posts from me for the next 3 -4 weeks or so. It's how I deal with stuff. Don't mean to pee in anyone's threads. ;)

For now we do and have for years. Maybe until my mom and I move to North Carolina is when the tradition will end.. LOL

My aunt come and stay for a week or so while my cousin and her kids, my sister and her husband and daughter come for dinner. Before my nephew graduated, he used to join us. And it seems the tradition is getting a bit smaller. My nephew has since graduated, in the Navy and is home for Christmas for 10 days and will be having Christmas Eve dinner at her house, instead of my mom's house. Last year my nephew didn't come because he was invited to his girlfriend's and my sister got sick and my brother in law couldn't come because he had to take care of my sister. (There is still some question as to if she really was sick since it would be the first Christmas my nephew would be not having Christmas dinner.)

So this year, my sister, brother in law, niece and her boyfriend, are coming for Christmas Eve dinner (we hope), my cousin with her daughter who is 10 years old and her other daughter who graduated school and is working hopefully will come to the house and join me, my mom and my aunt.

I don't know if my cousin is just being nice but last year she said that my nephew could come just for a few minutes before going to the girlfriend's house but we had just missed him. I wonder if she will say the same thing.. LOL

My nephew sees me, my mom and my brother in law's parents more than my aunt and cousins so...

Even though I don't think it will really kill my nephew to come over to the house just for a few minutes.

I think it's that, family will always be there but friends won't kind of thing...
