Do you think the show wouldn't have lasted long as it did if Doug and Carrie had a child? In my opinion the show would have definately collapsed if they had a child like most other sitcoms did that added a child to the family like Diff'rent Strokes, (Sam) Step by Step, (Lily) and Growing Pains (Chrissy) etc.

Yep, it definitely would have went downhill fast. It was very wise to wait until the finale to give them children. I think most of us assumed that would happen.

The ending was perfect and I agree with them not giving them children until the last episode. However, I would love to see a reunion episode with them being parents.

I actually hoped the last year they would have had a kid. I agree that usually it goes downhill (as did Mad About You), but with KofQ, Doug was such a "kid" himself it could have played out quite funny.

Stuff with Doug having to babysit, but then wants to go to a poker night or football game with Spence or Deacon and then some of the funny things he could get into with that. O.k., so maybe that plot's been played out a lot, but Arthur could have been funny with it too.

I agree I liked they didn't get kids until the end. I liked King of Queens mainly because it was more adult focused.

The Real Reason The Network Didn't Want Leah Remini And Kevin James To Have Kids On The King Of Queens (https://www.thethings.com/why-leah-remini-and-kevin-james-didnt-have-kids-on-the-king-of-queens/)

Leah Remini And Kevin James' character on The King Of Queens remained childless until the very end because of higher powers behind the scenes.

I think it was done the best way possible...at the end of the series...TV networks seem to have the incessant need to shake up the formula of good TV shows with "love interests" , marriage, children and straying away from what made the show successful in the first place...

The KoQ they finished off on this note which I thought was good...a show like Becker for example there was this forced need for Becker to end up with someone (over 2 seasons) and then it ended...

I would've liked to have seen Doug and Carrie have kids earlier in the series. I think they would've been very funny as parents and they could've had some very funny situations with them trying to cope with parenthood. It was a big missed opportunity in my opinion.
