With such memorable (and in earlier season intergral) characters missing from the whole season and a large proportion of the shows being (inferior) remakes of earlier episodes it's not hard to see that the creativity and energy on the show had dried up. I guess hiring less of the regular supporting cast might have also been a cost cutting exercise as well, just like the "European episodes", where they never actually left the studio. Can you imagine what a ninth season would have been like after season eight's decline? Season Seven had some great episodes still, even after the Salem trip and the series should have ended there. dakert 11-29-2008, 10:46 PM For me the last few seasons seemed more about Tabitha and that was okay with me :-) MickeyMac 11-30-2008, 04:27 PM ABC also pretty much killed the show during the last season by changing the time from Thursdays to Saturdays, and putting it right at the same time All In The Family was on, which lead to big ratings drops. jehobden 12-17-2008, 07:30 PM ABC also pretty much killed the show during the last season by changing the time from Thursdays to Saturdays, and putting it right at the same time All In The Family was on, which lead to big ratings drops. Actually the show didn't appear on Saturday against All in the Family until January 1972. It premiered fall 1971 on Wednesday night and apparently either didn't do well in that timeslot or ABC thought Bewitched would do better against AITF than whatever show premiered that fall in that timeslot on ABC. I have read that ABC still wanted to renew Bewitched for a ninth season which, as the previous poster indicated, probably would have been even worse than the eighth season. catlover79 01-06-2009, 12:26 AM What was on opposite Bewitched on Wednesdays in fall 1971? MickeyMac 01-06-2009, 06:23 PM I'll have to look it up and get back to you. catlover79 01-07-2009, 02:34 PM I'll have to look it up and get back to you. Thanks!! MickeyMac 01-07-2009, 05:21 PM What was on opposite Bewitched on Wednesdays in fall 1971? On CBS The Carol Burnett Show On NBC Adam 12 catlover79 01-07-2009, 07:09 PM ^ Thanks - Carol Burnett was at her peak at that point. No wonder Bewitched's ratings were down the drain at that point. Ironically, Elizabeth Montgomery and Carol Burnett co-starred in the 1963 flick Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed with Dean Martin. catlover79 01-07-2009, 10:31 PM Here are some pics of the aforementioned movie from the terrific website, http://www.bobsbewitchingdaughter.com/ !! comedyfreak 01-08-2009, 06:58 AM I'm gonna look up the movie on Netflix and rent this one.
