I had to work and I told the family to go ahead and start dinner without me. They were done by the time I arrived but saved me leftovers.

No, she was off, it was just that nobody in my family had any money to buy dinner, since we helped my brother out financially with his move this month. It's okay though, I wasn't really in much of a Turkey mood tonight anyway. Fortunately, Donna saved me a plate that she's bringing over tomorrow, so atleast I'll have a nice lunch. :)

Another thing I've been curious about, does anyone here have their own Thanksgiving dinner traditions which vary from the norm of Turkey, stuffing, etc?? I know that some people's traditions are different based on Religious reasons, ethnic reasons etc, so If you have your own thanksgiving traditions, what are they?

You're always so upbeat, Brad, no matter what. That's one of the things that I love about you. One day, I just know it, you and I are going to have a Thanksgiving dinner together. That's very sweet of Donna. Enjoy your lunch tomorrow. :)

Technically, yes. For dinner, we had Burger King. We had the turkey dinner at noon.

Awwww, thank you Janice, that means alot. I know I'm not always the most optimistic person about certain things, but I'm certainly not going to let a lack of a meal get me down, especially when I truly have alot to be thankful for!!

I too believe with all my heart that you and I will one day share a Thanksgiving dinner together, and I know it'll be the best Thanksgiving in the world!!!!!!!!!!! That's another reason I refuse to let today get me down. How can I possibly let it get me down, when I have soooo much to look forward to? :D

Sounds good. We'll have to be there in spirit today, but one day, we'll all break bread together. Garlic bread. ;)

Yeah, when I saw the picture, I knew I had to make it my av. It's been kind of a rough week for me, so I put it up mostly to make me laugh. ;)

That was so sweet of you to send me a postcard, Thank you!!! :) I haven't checked the mail for days, (As I mentioned, it's been kind of a rough week for me, and I haven't done much of anything, which explains my lack of presence here at S.O. of late. Now you got me excited though, I'm going to go check!!! :woohoo:

You're welcome. Good old Fenway Park, lol. I'm glad you posted tonight. I was started to worry a bit about you. The ups and downs and all arounds. I'm there too.

It's just an off year for you (and me) this Thanksgiving. Next year, you'l have your own place, be settled, and having your family over for dinner. Better times are coming, right at you! :)

Amen to that!! Sometimes we all need a little reminder that things are going to get better, and you have reminded me of that. I know that things will get better for us both. Thanks again for the reminder my friend!!!

We had a feast... but a very small feast, since it was just the 5 of us. Turkey, mashed potatoes, bread, something with sweet potatoes in it, and green bean casserole. No stuffing. Nothing.

Brad, you are truly an inspiration, always so positive! :)

I had a pretty terrible day myself, a dear friend of mine who has been battling cancer passed away this morning, so even though I had a traditional Thanksgiving meal with my family, it was still a tough day. :(

I am so sorry to hear this news Lauren!! :( A meal is just a meal, but life, and the ones we love are the most important things, and for you to lose someone you love, all I can say is I'm sooooooo sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that I'm always here for you. Only a phone call, or an email away. God bless your friend, and all his friends and family (including you) will be in my prayers at this difficult time!! :( Hang in there!!

You're not alone, I didn't have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. I had the last of the stew I made and some biscuits.

the only thing untraditional about our dinner was that Robyn was sick so I had to make the entire meal by myself - first time I've ever done it and I had to basically just wing it, I didn't even look at any of her recipes for anything, I just took all the ingredients and threw them together.

still, it didn't turn out too bad - the turkey was a bit too tender and basically fell apart

Hey - nothing wrong with that! I love it when it looks like it was dropped from an airplane! Sure makes carving easy - you just rip the bird apart!

I remember the first time I did the holiday dinner. Was so nervous, I started drinking some white wine while cooking. BIG mistake! It doesn't take me much to get me hammered and when I was taking the bird out of the roast pan to put it on a plate I dropped it on the kitchen floor! It looked like the scene in Everybody Loves Raymond where she's chasing the thing all over the floor.
Luckily the rest of the family never saw it and we were all loaded enough not to care. As I recall, it was declared the best turkey ever!!! Just shows that a light coating of Mop and Glow will never hurt anyone! ;)

When I had little kids at home and my father was still alive and brought my mom, I cooked the big dinner, but he's gone 9 yrs and my mom goes to my sister who is closer and we don't bother. The last 2 yrs my son worked that day anyway. I anyway work Friday so we don't go anyplace. And my kid don't eat leftovers so it's not worth it on several levels.

Truth be told, we eat turkey pretty often anyway and we eat pumpkin or squash several times a month. Once a year I buy a bunch of bags of cranberries and freeze them for use them during the year. So none of that food is a treat for us.
