They never seemed to be able to settle down one actress in the part of Hagatha especially, a bit like Betty at the office who was also played by numerous actresses. Reta Shaw was my favourite Hagatha and I wish she had of played the character right through the series run.

I don't know why they didn't just keep Reta Shaw playing Bertha (or named her Hagatha from the start) for the run.

Well Reta Shaw was a very busy character actress throughout the entire 1960's appearing in everything from "Mary Poppins", to guest apearances on shows like "Lost in Space", through to her own starring role on the series "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir". I guess she wasn't always available when Hagatha/Bertha was needed in a "Bewitched" episode. It is a bit like Robert F. Simon and Roy Roberts alternating in the role of Frank Stephens, it depended on which actor was free at the time. It does make it a bit annoying when numerous people play the one character. I think the secretary Betty at McMann & Tate was played by about 5 or 6 actresses over the years. I always thought Jill Foster was the best Betty and she played the role the most times I believe.

I agree, Reta Shaw was the "definitive" Hagatha!

Reta is definitely my favorite female character actress. She had the curmudgeonly matronly no-nonsense type down pat. IMO you can never get too much of Reta!
