It always seemed a bit confusing or perhaps more to the point a bit vague on who is related to who on "Bewitched", especially in Endora's generation. I know that it was clearly stated that Uncle Arthue was Endora's much younger brother but was Aunt Clara actually Endora's older sister? And Aunt Hagatha and Enchantra really had vague connections with the family as well. Serena mentioned she was a relation from Maurice's side of the family, bu twho were her parents? Its always intrigued me about who actually made up Endora's direct family. Any thoughts from others?

They were pretty vague about that. The only sibling connection they made clear was that Endora and Arthur were brother and sister.

It's assumed that Hagatha and Enchantra were also sisters of Clara and Endora.

Yes, Enchantra and Hagatha WERE sisters, but they never came out and said Endora and Clara were sisters directly. It seemed that Clara was closer to Maurice's side of the family, but who knows?

Well, who wouldn't love Aunt Clara.:D

Endora didn't love Clara

Clara seemed to be related on Maurice's side...he seemed to have a special fondness for her. I think this stirred Endora's ire and it was stated that Maurice's family was not fond of Endora, so maybe Clara was perhaps a ringleader that spoke out against Maurice and Endora's relationship during their courting period, but this was never clearly defined.

Endorra always seem embarrsed by Clara, and true it was never revealed how she and the other witches were related to Endorra.

For that matter I would like to know who were Serena's parents, and how is she and Samantha cousins, they was never explained.

To be cousins, it had to be either a sibling of Endora or Maurice, and Serena stated she was from Maurice's side of the family. But we never got to know about the family tree that deeply. Heck, Darrin was supposed to have a sister, but the writers never bothered to write her in. Funny how both Sam and Darrin wound up as "an only child".

I think Endora was always pretty jealous of Sam's close bond with Aunt Clara - anyone else agree?

Probably, and Clara was more accepting of Darrin than anybody else in Samantha's family.

Yes, she genuinely liked Darrin. All Aunt Clara wanted was Sam, Darrin and Tabitha to be happy, which they were - most of the time.

I agree with you there, it came through on screen too. I loved how she told Aunt Clara long may you wave, LOL.

Yes, that was a cute moment. I also think Endora was a bit jealous of the bond between Sam and Uncle Arthur. Plus, the fact that Uncle Arthur always was the center of attention.

Clara: "Oh Samantha, I so wish I had your flair!"
*magic*
Clara: "What's this?" (with flare in hand)
Sam: "That Aunt Clara, is your flair!"

Clara was really the only relation of Samantha's that liked Darrin and actually called him by his correct name!!! I loved in her first episode where Clara asked to be introduced to that "nice young mortal you've married", and I also loved when she would greet Samantha and Darrin as " oh hello children!", so cute!!!

Yeah Clara was the only one of Sam's relatives that Darrin seemed to really like and didnt mind having in his home. He even seemed patient whenever Clara's spells woulld go wrong, which was 95% of the time.

Well, except for the time the suit she conjured up for him vanished, leaving him running around the car in his shorts, trying to escape a cop. "AUNT CLARA, DO SOMETHING!!" :brent

I also loved Darrin's reaction to finding Aunt Clara sound asleep in the middle of the exhibit in "The Corn is As High As a Geunrsey's Eyes" (one of my favourite episodes) Dick York's facial expressions in that scene are pricless and I love Clara's exclamation "Darrin Darrin what are you doing here?" then Darrin saying "What am I doing here? what are you doing here!!!" so funny

It was very important that BW have at least someone else besides Sam in Darrin's corner. Perhaps Endora was also infuriated with Clara because she truly liked Darrin and that earned her more favor with Sam and perhaps leaving a little less room for Endora in Sam's heart. Jealousy is a strange thing.

I read somewhere that both Serena and Clara came from Maurice's part of the family. So Clara most have been Maurice's sister.

Very nicely said, Jude. Sam did love Endora very much, that's for sure, but she had such a special bond with Aunt Clara. That was one of the best parts of the show, and the entire show was never the same once Marion Lorne passed on.

Some of BW's heart died when Marion passed on.

That's for sure. I couldn't even imagine anyone else as Aunt Clara...it's too bad she died before she won her Emmy. :(

OH Nuts!

Yes, Aunt Clara was one of my favorite all time characters and was simply a very sweet witch. Who wouldn't love her? She was a very lovable person.

I totally agree with you Monika, the show was never the same after Marion Lorne passed.

Once she passed and Dick York was incapacitated, it wasn't the same show. :(

I always thought she was Samantha's great aunt, although neither Endora or Maurice refered to her as Aunt. It was only recently that I learned she was Endora's older sister. I think that was implied by Herbie Plato's book, or the documentary in Season one dvd set. Anyway she's definately my favorite relative!

Remember when Endora lost her powers to Aunt Clara in Season 4? Endora yelled, "You mean a complete stranger has MY powers?" Dr. Bombay told her that "it would have to be a relative". So, I guess maybe Endora and Aunt Clara WERE related by blood.
