Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the movie, I just don't get how this was a guaranteed hit months before even arriving at the box office.

Because middle school aged girls love the romance in it.

So, it is basically a movie for tweens?

Kinda, a lot of girls my age love it too. It's based on a series of 4 books by Stephanie Meyer. I'm not sure if they plan to do 4 movies, one for each book like Harry Potter, or if this movie sums up the whole series. I just bought the first book a few days ago because my friends love it so much, I plan to start reading it soon and see for myself what all the hoopla is about, LOL

Face it Brian, we're just not down with what the kids are into these days.

Do they still say "down with?" Probably not. Man am I old.

;)

i think they're doing a movie for each book like harry potter. my sister told me they're already starting to film the second one.

a lot of girls in middle/high school love the books so they're seeing the movie. one of my friends saw it and she said it was pretty good, but it's definitely better for those who have read and liked the book.

Maybe the network shouldn't have cancelled Moonlight, same premise.

I am a mom of girls--a junior in high school and a sixth grader--and the older one introduced me to the books. I read them all inside of a month and was totally fascinated, even though I am nearly 50! I was very much like Bella in high school--the outsider, even more awkward both socially and physically than she is--so I guess that is why I loved the books so much, a girl like me getting the guy she REALLY wants. That and the fact that I have always been interested in vampire novels and movies, starting with Dracula when I was 13 (best movie version IMHO the Frank Langella one) and Interview with the Vampire (the movie of which was not up to the book, also IMHO) in high school.

Sooo...when my younger daughter wanted to see the movie and the older one wanted to go a second time, I tagged along. There is much left out or changed from the book, of course, but basically it portrayed the characters and their story the way I had pictured them as I read. The acting was not Oscar-worthy, but the leads did a wonderful job of conveying that nearly universal situation of trying to resist forbidden love and failing! And now my younger daughter is embarking on the books....I guess seeing the movie could encourage you to read the books as well as vice versa.
