For me It's Bubba. But there are a couple ep's with Buzz and Sonia I like. Like the Obscene Caller ep, and the Karate Ep.

The Bubba era, because Iola was also there.

The Bubba Era for sure. Buzz and Sonia always seemed kinda corny to me.

They never struck me as corny. They just didnt have much to say usually

Bubba was good in the early ones, but later on his character got really annoying when he turned into a Frat Boy/Jock/Sufer Dude. That just seemed way out of touch with Bubba.

Well, it was the 80s, what are you going to do with Bubba's character? All I can remember about Alan Kayser is that whenever I see Night of The Creeps, I say "It's Bubba! Where's Noami and the gang? Bubba went yuppie and bleached blonde all of a sudden! He even sounds intelligent all of a sudden. I guess Mama taught him right instead of playing the surfer/frat boy role."

Acting like a typical Frat boy and talking like a California Surfer dude doesnt sound intelligent to me. Not to mention- they simply took the spunk out of Bubba. Sure, he had to grow up, but they took all the personality out of him and made him a bore. Im not sure if that was the Director's choice, or Alan Kayser didnt like playing it more "camp" the way he did- but I much prefer earlier genuine Bubba to the other one.

I think they had to show that being apart of a real family changed Bubba. Before he moved in with Mama he was mostly ignored and with the wrong crowd.

Yeah, In the morning before school his mom would throw a frozen waffle in a bag and tell him to beat it!

I love the Bubba/Iola years. They had the funniest episodes. The episode when Bubba and Mama worked together at the hamburger shop is priceless. I also love the episode when Mama and Iola compete to be the CLL president.

I think the Bubba years were funnier but a part of me likes the Buzz/Sonia years because Vinton was smarter and didn't act like a child when his children were present.

Definitely Bubba and Iola! Iola really helps make the show IMO!

I agree. It's kinda like Lucy and Ethel. It's not the same when they're not together.

I liked Bubba. Bubba was cute. He fitted right into the family picture alot more. Buzz and Sonja were just a missing pice of the family picture that never fit in anywhere.

Buzz and Sonya years. Not that I liked Buzz and Sonya, but those were the episodes with Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Carol Burnett!

markway, I think you helped me to make my choice. I thought about the later years but the elements that are missing are found during the Buzz and Sonia so I guess for me it would be The Buzz and Sonia years although there were some dry moments.

But if its Buzz/Sonya vs. Bubba alone, I have to go with Bubba. Oh how I wish this show had a reunion where EVERYBODY from both casts, came back. It would be interesting to see Bubba with Eunice. Atleast Ellen came back once, and we saw her interact with Bubba and Iola.

I liked the original cast of Mama's Family but the Bubba/Iola years were by far the best. Bubba was far more interesting than Buzz or Sonya. I loved Iola. I am hugh fans of Rue McClanhan and Betty White but they had very boring characters compared to their Golden Girls characters. So I think they finally got it right the second time around. Wish Carol Burnett had appeared in some of the syndicated episodes though.

Perhaps if Ms. Burnett and her husband, executive producer Joe Hamilton, had not gotten divorced in 1985, she probably would have appeared in the syndicated episodes.
