Was this segment on Special 6, aired 5/6/1988, or was it on the first regular episode, aired 10/5/1988 along with the Gail Delano segment? Two sources are conflicting on this.

TIA. :)

I think the specials are among my favorite episodes of all time so I can field this one...

The original NBC aired special six did NOT have the Joe Sheppard segment.

When special six was syndicated on Lifetime, they did put the Sheppard segment in place of the Steve Hadley segment (go figure).

The Sheppard segment aired as part of the first actual episode of Unsolved Mysteries on October 5, 1988.

One big clue I caught in later years was the interview with the detective during the update about Sheppard's arrest. He says something along the lines of "after the Unsolved Mysteries broadcast of October the 5th we received a tip..."

In case you were wondering, the Hadley segment was transplanted into another Lifetime episode, so it wasn't "lost". The Lifetime cut of special six also misses the update about Jerry Strickland and Missy Munday being captured in Washington. Oddly enough, the editors screwed up and Stack mentions the update during his opening narration on the Lifetime version, but then we never see it. (Yeah, I've seen it that many times).
