Hear, hear...Happy 79th Birthday, Ed Asner!

Coincidentally, I just watched "Lou's First Date", when Mary mistakenly lines up Martha Dudley, a much older woman, instead of Ellen Dudley, as Lou's date for the broadcasters' awards.

The writing was spectacular in this episode, and Ed gives what I think is one of his best performances. The look on his face when he's first told Martha is his date is priceless, and later he has to suck it up and deal with Ted's barbs.

There are also the hilarious moments when Martha asks Lou to pin the corsage on her because "These old fingers don't always do what you want them to anymore", and then, when he's walking her up the apartment stairs, she says, "Thank you, Lou. These old legs don't always do what you want them to anymore"!

It was as funny tonight as it was when I first saw it. Bravo, Ed, and bravo The Mary Tyler Moore Show!
