Culver City, Calif. (November 24, 2008) – The grooviest rock n’ roll family ever takes their final bow when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment debuts The Partridge Family: The Complete Fourth Season on DVD February 3. Top guest stars this season include Gordon Jump (TV’s “WKRP in Cincinnati”), Cheryl Ladd (TV’s “Charlie’s Angels”), Emmy® Award winner Pat Harrington, Jr. (TV’s “One Day at a Time”), and Jackie Coogan (TV’s “The Adams Family”). The three-disc set contains all 22 episodes from the fourth season and will be available for $29.95 SRP.

SYNOPSIS
This season the family tries unsuccessfully to conserve energy; Laurie (Dey) poses as Keith’s (Cassidy) date to make other girls jealous but the plan backfires; Danny (Bonaduce) wants to impress a girl by telling her rabbi father that the Partridges are Jewish and the whole family is invited to dinner; and Shirley (Jones) tries to hire a maid, but it’s all in the family when her mother shows up to apply for the job.

The Partridge Family, which burst onto the television scene in September 1970, centers on a fatherless family of six who form a rock band and tour the country in their psychedelic-painted bus. The band’s members include mom Shirley (Shirley Jones) and her five kids: oldest son Keith (teen idol David Cassidy), keyboardist Laurie (Susan Dey), bassist and get-rich-quick schemer Danny (Danny Bonaduce), and the two youngest Partridges, Chris (Brian Forster) and Tracy (Suzanne Crough). The family’s frequently exasperated manager Reuben Kincaid (David Madden) rounds out the cast.

The Partridge Family’s success crossed over to the pop charts when several Partridge Family songs became genuine hits, including the theme “C’mon, Get Happy,” which debuted during the second season, and the number one hit “I Think I Love You.” The Partridge Family ran for four seasons on ABC and was nominated for five Golden Globe® Awards, including one for Best Musical/Comedy.

I recently bought The Partridge Family DVD seasons 1, 2, & 3. While I still prefer The Brady Bunch, in it's own way The Partridge Family is a decent show too. But I don't think I'll be buying season four, this is when the show really went into the tank. There was a further decline in the quality of the music, (Bulletin Board is the album emphasized during the season) the episodes got more contrived and worst of all was Ricky Segall as the new addition to the cast. So I think I'll just stick with seasons 1, 2, & 3 and pass on the last season.

They probably could have come back for one more final season and had a season five if they would have re-vamped the show and went back to what they were doing before. But the 4th season blunders caused the show's demise and ruined any chances for a 5th season.

Yep, I figured they would make the color of the box orange this time. It's not the final artwork though, some of it may change.

I'm sure that ABC's moving the show to Saturday night and scheduling the show against All in the Family, the #1 show on tv at the time, didn't help ratings either!

I am about 9 episodes into season 4 at the moment. Did Chris and Tracy ever get anything to do in an episode other than fill out the numbers of the band? I bet they wished they were on The Brady Bunch so they could use their acting chops. Also, is Danny quite a poor actor? He says the lines but is quite an unlikeable character IMO.
