Punisher: War Zone comes out in December. The role of Frank Castle/The Punisher is now being played by Ray Stevenson; Tom Jane from The Punisher (2004) is not in this one.

I heard that this is a sequel and then I heard others say it is a reboot; much like HULK and The Incredible Hulk.

What exactly is this new Punisher?

Judging by the trailers I've seen, it looks like more of a reboot than a sequel to Tom Jane's Punisher.

That movie didn't do very well, so I would think they're trying to relaunch the franchise.

yeah but neither did the 89' version with dolph lundgren fare well either. i don't know why they bother making a third punisher movie, but these days it's all about money

This new Punisher movie looks like a straight up actioner - no origin story, no exposition, this is the Punisher doing what he does best; shooting lots of bad guys. Plus, it's cheaper for the film makers to bring in a new guy for the part. Tom Jane probably asked for a ton of moulah to reprise the role since the first one was such a dud.

Jane's Punisher was such a letdown, It had an A-list cast, but a C list budget. It should have been better.

I've said it before on these boards, and I'll say it again. I liked Dolph's Punisher more than Tom Jane's Punisher movie.

I never saw Dolph Lundgren's The Punisher.

I actually really liked Jane's version. The fight with Kevin Nash (The Russian) and Jane I loved.

The only thing I didn't like was how Punisher is after organized crime down in Florida. That seemed a little stupid.

I thought it was great and I also loved Travolta in it.

Punisher: War Zone was god-awful.

It is a reboot; it has nothing to do with 2004 version.

It was horrible, bad acting, bad action, bad story, bad everything.

Highly not recommended.

^ I didn't see the new one, but a few friends who did said it wasn't very good.

I doubt we'll see any more Punisher sequels or reboots in the future.

tbh if I had not been a fan of the Punisher character pryor to seeing the 2004 one, I would have loved it... because it was a great movie... just not accurate.

I heard that originally Tom Jane was on board for a direct sequel to the 2004 movie that he did. As it progressed he became displeased with the script and the direction they were going with it so he left.

After Tom Jane left they decided to completely revamp "The Punisher" rather than go with the sequel.

Yes, I can say for now Punisher is dead and buried. Maybe 20 years from now a new film might surface.
