About a month ago my cousin went into the hospital for what we thought was a routine hernia operation. He got a staph infection and spent the last few weeks in a coma before dying yesterday. He was only a year younger than me. One minute he was a full of life and now he's gone. What scares me is that my health is not that great and the very same thing could happen to me if I'm ever hospitalized. I honestly don't know much about staph infections but I'm definitely going to do some research. :(

Oh my God, I am so sorry for your loss, Charles! I admire the fact that you are concerned about your future and I think you should probably talk to your physician about what happened. I'm sure he or she would be very helpful in reassuring you and may be able to get you some additional information. We'll be thinking about you!

This is very sad and no one wants to go through an infection but it's possible it may happen in spite of hospitals trying to keep everything sanitary and safe for patients. I hear about this happening more often now and I'm not sure what to blame it on because there are a number of things that factor into a patient getting a staph.

Im sorry to hear about that. :( My dad had cancer and had to have surgery. While he was in the hospital he also got a staph infection. Luckily he survived and is so far cancer free today.

I'm so sorry Charles. That's heartbreaking. Unforunately staph infections can be very common and it depends on the person's overall health and how quickly they can get antibiotics to the person on whether they can overcome the infection or not.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know how painful it is to lose someone, especially someone close and young. I was in the hospital for 4 months straight for a staph infection once. I still don't know how I got it.
