Second Family takes a look at that moment in life when your friends are more important than your family; when now is all that matters and forever is a foreign concept that you're only beginning to grasp... when careers come second to making money, finding love and having fun: the time that is your twenties... Second Family is a brand-new comedy that shows what a group of twenty-something’s living in the heart of L.A. can do and will do for love, for money and what it means to have a second family... In this hilarious group of friends is Stacey, the sarcastic, jaded, mysterious one who teaches yoga and does just about every other odd job she can find... She's been hurt in love too many times and is at a place where she just may give up... then you have Jodi, the ultimate optimist whose been engaged to her fiancée Richard for three years now and has not doubt in her mind that he's the one... even despite the fact they've been engaged for three years... Now, Richard he's the type that's always lived off his good looks and his easy flowing charm and hasn't a care in the world. He met Jodi in college and they dated for five years before he proposed. He only proposed in his mind because it seemed like the right thing to do... and he does love her; but just not as much as he loves Claudia a gorgeous and free-spirited musician who he just knew he had to be with; it doesn't seem to concern him that Claudia is Jodi's much younger cousin... next you have Shawn, the ultimate slacker who works at his fathers record company as a receptionist, and even that seems like too much work for Shawn the one that starts a project but gets bored and never finishes it... Shawn used to date Stacey, but that went out the window when he cheated on her with Skye who Stacey can't stand, but who is Jodi's best friend in the world... Jodi and Skye live together and Stacey happens to live right across the hall from them... Richard and Shawn live together in an apartment next to Jodi and Skye. However it seems like they always end up hanging out at Jodi's apartment... Oh, and on the out-skirts of the group is Jeremy who went to college with Shawn and for a while was best-friends with Stacey, but after a brief and very bad romance with Jodi has been distant from the group. Shawn and him hang out occasionally but everything is awkward when he's around Jodi or Stacey...

Episode 1: Me and My Second Family: In the pilot episode we are introduced to this eclectic group of friends from Los Angeles all in their 20's who have serious problems in their dating lives. Jodi Williamson, age 23 (Melissa Joan Hart) has been engaged for three years to her fiancee, Richard (Rider Strong) who she met in college and who proposed to her a year after college graduation but has yet to commit to setting a wedding date. Jodi is an optimist at heart and wants to believe that Richard loves her but is starting to believe he may be cheating on her. Jodi's best friend is Stacey Cleaver, who at age 23 is jaded and down on love. She has been cheated on twice and has been left at the alter once; she works as a yoga instructor part time and does odd jobs to make the rent. Recently, she has decided to swear off love all-together; that is until she meets Matt Hudson, a handsome, sensitive and single dcotor who seems to be suggesting that they get together. Richard is Jodi's current fiance and yes, he does love her, but as we are about to find out his committment issues has to do more with the fact that he seems to love Claudia Williamson a whole lot more than he loves her cousin Jodi. Richard seems to get tounge tied whenever he's around Claudia, and goes out of his way to flirt with her---she's blissfully unaware of his attraction but like always soaks up the attention when it's given to her; she is Jodi's cousin, but to say they arent' close would be an understatement---in fact Claudia and Jodi are pretty much bitter enemies. Shawn Fraser was recently fired from yet another job as a waiter--his fourth since graduating college, four years ago---he now has to do what he dreads the most--ask his father for a job... He does not want to but sees no other option. His father offers him a job as a receptionist at his record company. Hopefully Shawn can manage not to screw this up at all. Jeremey realizes that after breaking up with Jodi over four years ago and drifting away from his former best friend Stacey that he has very few friends in L.A. and sets out to find a new group to hang with, but his accidently going into a gay bar and finding a group of guys he thinks are on a baseball team sets him up for bitter dissapointment.
