I think I am going to wait until the week before Thanksgiving to start
getting excited.
Brad Russ 11-05-2008, 03:29 AM I'm looking forward to what will hopefully be a peaceful and quiet day with friends and family. Not too excited about the clean up, which I'm responsible for each year, but other than that it should be fun!!
ponytail 11-05-2008, 06:39 AM I'm ready for that pumpkin pie!!!
ekkostar 11-05-2008, 08:24 AM Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I always end up eating stuffing and cranberry sauce for a month straight!
DLevine2 11-05-2008, 08:39 AM I'm excited for Thanksgiving. I look forward to the turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. This year, should be a good Thanksgiving because it will be our First Thanksgiving in our new home.
Brian Damage 11-05-2008, 09:59 AM It sure is going fast....with that said, I do enjoy the holidays with my family. :)

Cactus Jack 11-05-2008, 02:05 PM Cant wait!
Janice 11-05-2008, 04:51 PM I love the turkey dinner, but the holiday itself lost its charm when I lost my family. All holidays have. It's just not the same. Still, I make the best of it, but I don't look forward to any holiday anymore. I was so into Christmas before. I'd shop all year, decorate like crazy, etc.
treky 11-05-2008, 05:35 PM yea, I can understand how something like that would put a damper on the holidays, Janice. I'm sorry.
However, with that said, I'm looking forward to both Thanksgiving & Xmas!!
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-05-2008, 05:44 PM I'm pretty excited...food plus family? Good times.

i'm sorry. :( it must be really hard to not have your whole family with you.
catlover79 11-05-2008, 07:57 PM Plus it's a great time to watch my favorite Thanksgiving themed TV episodes:
A Thanksgiving to Remember - Bewitched (1967)
An American Family - Bob Newhart Show (1974)
Over The River & Through the Woods - Bob Newhart Show (1975)
and last but not least:
Turkeys Away! - WKRP in Cincinnati (1978)
PunkyP0WER 11-05-2008, 09:12 PM i feel the way janice does about it. most of my family is long passed and its just not enjoyable to me anymore. i look at the empty places at the table knowing each year that passes i'm farther removed from them. they are left where they are as time keeps marching forward. after my mom died we started having thanksgiving dinner at home town buffet but that was awful. my dad has remarried since but my stepmom is all about her family. by the time i get to their house they've already eaten (her daughter & grandkids) and everything on the table is cold and picked through. so i get my plate microwaved and still can't enjoy it because the 2 grandkids start tugging on my sleeves asking me to play with them while i'm trying to eat my food. its really miserable. and this year my sisters not coming to my stepmoms because she'll be in florida spending the holiday with my aunt whose all alone since her husband died and my husbands not going with me to dinner because he hates my stepmom and wants to be with his mom. the only thing i enjoy about the day is watching the macys' thanksgiving day parade.
when i was little we'd have thanksgiving at my grandfathers house, we'd come and there'd be turkey, mashed potatos, sweet potatos, green beans, cranberry sauce, corn - all the trimmings and of course we'd always have an italian dish too like lasagna. and the adults would eat in the kitchen and my sister, my cousins matt and luke and me in the den at the kids table and we'd have fun teasing each other and laughing and joking. my grandfather would have the record player going in the living room and we'd go through the newspaper looking at all the sales fliers. those were fun times.

i didn't think about that aspect: i like to watch miracle on 34th street (of course) right after the parade is over since thats where the start of the movie picks up at. and the movie dutch with ed o'neill, thats one of my fav. non-xmas holiday films. its so underrated but so good.
and i like the roseanne thanksgiving ep. from season 2 or 3 can't remember which. i have that on dvd. i'm not a big roseanne fan and only like the 1st couple seasons of the show but enjoy this ep because its very much like a real family.
and of course my favs. besides miracle on 34th are a garfield thanksgiving special and a charlie brown thanksgiving.

browneyes106 11-05-2008, 11:18 PM I'm exicited for Thanksgiving because I get to see some friends and relatives.
Big C 11-06-2008, 12:01 AM I also have dealt with a personal family loss, like Janice.
My grandmother passed away five years ago, and my mom's nanny died that same year as well.
Schmoopie 11-06-2008, 02:22 AM I love Thanksgiving! My husband and I always go to a nice restaurant and eat and then come home and watch the Macy's parade (which I always TiVo!). My family is in Texas but we talk on the phone, which is nice.
Three years ago I requested to have the day after Thanksgiving off from work. I submitted my leave request just days before a YEAR in advance and I was TURNED DOWN! I was so ticked about that for the entire year! Well I held this grudge until the dreaded day came and it turns out that it was actually a really nice day to work because it was really slow!
So now I don't mind working on the day after!

MickeyMac 11-06-2008, 06:45 PM For the last couple of years me and my friends get together the Sunday after Thanksgiving for what we call "Friendsgiving". Those are the best Thanksgivings I have ever had. I would never tell my mother that because she would go ballistic.

I assume you mean the original "MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET" and not that HORRIBLE TV-movie remake from the 70s (which never gets shown on TV, which tells you how good it was). I think there was also a remake in the 80s or 90s, which I heard also isn't very good.

I knew about the remake from the 1990s, but never knew they remade it in the 1970s. Who was in it?
DLevine2 11-09-2008, 06:41 PM Only 18 days until Turkey Day.
I'm looking forward to Turkey Day in two weeks.
treky 11-10-2008, 04:09 AM I knew about the remake from the 1990s, but never knew they remade it in the 1970s. Who was in it?
Sebastin Cabot (Mr. French on "FAMILY AFFAIR" from the 60s, if you've ever seen it) as Kris Kringle/Santa Claus, and David Hartman as the lawyer.
JamesG 11-10-2008, 04:57 AM I never cared for Thanksgiving at all; to me it is the most dreaded holiday.
Part of it is because I hate all of the traditional Thanksgiving food; especially turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing... etc.
Part of it is because I don't like most of my extended family so I dread seeing them.
veggie-tari-jenn 11-11-2008, 02:44 AM I am sorta okay with it....I like the Bigg dinner with family and friends...and I enjoy my volunteer work...but the idea of all those turkeys being slaughtered for dinners breaks my heart:(
