What would have been a good final episode? I really don't think they would have done most of the episodes that were planned for the second half of the season if they knew they were getting cancelled, especially the last one which was Mama's Date. Someday My Prince was taped early but aired as the 2nd last episode of the series, but they could have aired that, and then had a 2 part final episode after that episode aired.

I think they could have done a fast paced last show, like they did on Golden Girls, where some new character comes on board or something, and Nell gets engaged. Better yet, I think James should have returned for the series finale if there had been one, because James Roland promised Nell that they would wait until the girls grew up to get married, and then he just sort of disappeared.

The series finale could have been 1 hour long and the first part could have been about Nell, Addy, Grandpa and Marty taking Joey and Matty to compete on Star Search and they win, and James Roland is in the audience when this happens as he now lives in the Los Angeles area. He and Nell get back together, but she has to go back to New York and he proposes to her. The 2nd part of the finale is Nell packing up the house in New York and Addy is sad, as she will be all alone now that the boys are gonna be in their own band in LA and Nell is moving back to California to marry James and manage the boys. Nell has a quick godbye party with Maggie, her husband, Marty and Mrs. Tercobe and leaves with Grandpa, Addy and the boys on the plane. Nell unpacks in her new Apartment in LA where she, James and the boys will live in. There are a few vacancies, so Grandpa takes one of the empty apartments and falls in love with a woman who lives next door to his new apartment. Addy is sad she is returning back to NY after the wedding. Nells wedding begins and Mama Maybelle, Katie, Julie, Jonathan, Sam and Baby Nell are all there. Baby Nell is 1, and mumbles "Nell". Nell gets married and then Addy goes crazy when she hears she just got a new job in Los Angeles. She takes another vacant apartment at the building, and everyone can still be together. Nell completely forgets about Mama, who goes back to NY. During their first night as a married couple in their new apartment, Nell and James are happy they are finally together as a knock comes on the door. It's Mama Maybelle, who is moving to LA since Howard got a job as a weatherman there. Now the whole family can be together at last.

I find this poster's ideas to be quite interesting! However, I am going to have to say that by the sixth reason the show was really riding on empty! I gave up on watching it about a half season after its final death. In the first place, like I have mentioned a bunch of times, ever since age thirteen, I have had a huge crush on Julie! With her gone, I looked at that as one very big mark against the show! On top of this, I thought that the whole premise of their lives in New York was too far removed from what the show was supposed to be about. If the rest of the series comes out on DVD, I plan on buying all of the seasons except the last!

I would let Nell and everybody stay where they are. Visits from the other former cast members would have been fine to end the show.

I had a huge crush on Lara Jill Miller, but I could watch episodes that she wasn't in, because I liked the other cast members.
When the show moved to New York, the whole concept of the show changed.
They should have kept it in Glenlawn.
Even if the girls were not regular characters, the show could've done a lot better.
Since they lived close...Julie & Jonathan could drop by with baby Nell.
Samantha could go to a California college (UCLA?).
I also think the producers biggest mistake was assuming that Nell Carter could carry the entire show by herself.
