View Full Version : WAS IT EVER SYNDICATED? APPLEI 05-28-2001, 12:35 PM WAS LOVE ON A ROOFTOP EVER SYNDICATED? IF SO WHEN? BundyBoy10 04-24-2003, 11:06 PM NO. TV Knowledge Fan 04-17-2006, 04:55 PM ...but there WAS a time, in the '90s, when Columbia Pictures Television bundled together a package of their "one season" wonders {"LOVE ON A ROOFTOP", "OCCASIONAL WIFE", "MR. MERLIN", etc.} and distributed them to local stations for a brief period. I believe at least one episode of "ROOFTOP" also appeared on their "SCREEN GEMS NETWORK" syndicated package (1999-2001) as well. My Favorite Martian 12-16-2006, 01:07 AM Writer Bernard Slade confirmed it, he was very fond of both this show and it's stars and felt it never really was given a fair slot to support it. TV Knowledge Fan 12-18-2006, 08:06 PM ...about how much Bernard Slade was fond of "LOVE ON A ROOFTOP", 'My'. I still remember the majority of episodes and still wonder how GOOD they were! The problem, of course, was the scheduling: how'd YOU like to be on opposite "PETTICOAT JUNCTION", or "STAR TREK"...or "NBC TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" or "THE CBS THURSDAY NIGHT MOVIES"? ABC just wasn't patient enough to wait for another season for that show to become a "success". :tv: EmpressDR 12-27-2006, 07:19 PM ...about how much Bernard Slade was fond of "LOVE ON A ROOFTOP", 'My'. It was opposite those other shows! These days, with VCRs, and multiple TVs in the house, I STILL had that problem, when I wanted to see two or more in the same time slot. I taped all of them, on my 3 VCRs. Of course, now that I'm renting a room in somebody else's house, and only have one crummy TV from 1986, I'm up s*** creek. :2help Bob's TV Treasures 04-08-2007, 09:00 PM The show was REBROADCAST by CBS (as a summer replacement) several years after the ABC run. I don't think it was ever syndicated in the US. By the way, for the youngsters out there who don't recall cigarette commercials, the show's main sponsor was SALEM CIGARETTES ("you can take Salem out of the country, but you can't take the country out of Salem"). Jude The Obscure 08-22-2007, 04:17 PM didn't this show follow Bewitched when it aired in prime time? How bad were the ratings, if it followed a big hit? TV Knowledge Fan 09-07-2007, 02:16 PM ----"LOVE ON A ROOFTOP" was repeated by ABC [not CBS] in the summer of 1971. Apparently, they needed a "cheap" summer replacement show on Wednesday nights {9pm(et)} , and decided to repeat several episodes that year. Time had caught up with the series, and ratings were somewhat better than the first time it had been shown. And yes, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. {Salem} was the original primary sponsor in 1966-'67. And no, it WAS syndicated as part of a Screen Gems/Columbia "package" of their one-season series during the late '80s. :tv: AB 09-07-2007, 05:33 PM I suppose the chances for this show coming out on DVD is pretty low. But I would sure like to see it again. James28 04-19-2008, 08:05 PM Love on a Rooftop was never sold into syndication, and I had not seen it since ABC rebroadcast the episodes in the summer of 1971. bencasey 12-18-2008, 03:58 AM [QUOTE=TV Knowledge Fan And no, it WAS syndicated as part of a Screen Gems/Columbia "package" of their one-season series during the late '80s. :tv:[/QUOTE] The problem was that package went over like a lead balloon. Did it ever get sold anywhere? I don't think it actually did but I remember when it was being advertised in the trades. Jude The Obscure 12-18-2008, 08:35 PM USA Network bought a package from Columbia/Screen Gems in the late '80s which included "The Girl with Something Extra" and "Temperatures Rising", but "Love on a Rooftop" was NOT one of those shows. someguy23475 02-17-2020, 09:54 AM Occasional Wife, Girl with Something Extra, Accidental Family, Mrs G. Goes to College and other one season wonders have been rerun. Why Rooftop hasn’t, even in a 5000 channel universe is beyond me. From the episodes I have seen, it’s better than these shows. RetroTVNitekatt 07-11-2020, 02:01 AM Writer Bernard Slade confirmed it, he was very fond of both this show and it's stars and felt it never really was given a fair slot to support it. It aired between "Bewitched" and "That Girl" and he says it wasn't given a fair shot? "Bewitched" was ABC's #1 Show in 1966-1967 (Batman dropped that season - badly) and "That Girl" did well it's first season. RetroTVNitekatt 07-11-2020, 02:04 AM Since 16mm prints (and video transfers from those) have been going around collectors for at least 3 1/2 decades, the show had to been sold overseas at some point for Columbia Pictures Television/Screen Gems to strike up 16mm prints. merlinjones 02-08-2021, 02:07 PM Weren't 16mm prints also made in those days for smaller UHF network affiliates? merlinjones 02-08-2021, 02:10 PM Sony owned Screen Gems shows I'd like to see again in addition to Love on a Rooftop: The Ugliest Girl in Town, The Girl With Something Extra, The Paul Lynde Show (remastered), and the missing Bob Crane seasons of The Donna Reed Show. |
