View Full Version : "The Lucy Show"/"Here's Lucy" on DVD in 2009 and 2010
Benno123 11-01-2008, 11:52 AM As posted on the welovelucy.com message board ... my special thanks to "Shemp" for posting this on the board. I haven't heard any confirmations, but this may be good news for Lucy fans .....

At the Friends of Old-Time Radio Convention in NJ this weekend, during a Saturday Q&A with Luci Arnaz, Larry Luckinbill and the other guests...
Luci said that HERE'S LUCY will be distributed by MPI Video in 2010/2011. Season sets; the entire series.
At the same Q&A, Gregg Oppenheimer confirmed that THE LUCY SHOW Season 1 is set for a CBS/Paramount release in 2009.
Finally, Luci knows of no plans for Desi's (Exec. Prod.) THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW (1967 - 1969).
sigmapi30 11-02-2008, 03:27 PM I hope that's true!! I wish they would mention Life With Lucy too.
Benno123 11-02-2008, 10:09 PM I really wouldn't be surprised if LWL would get a release - someday, many years from now! - when the demand for more Lucille is there, but all movies and all TV shows have been released. If this deal with MPI is true, I wouldn't be surprised to see a release of her TV specials like Lucy In London and The Lucille Ball Comedy Hour with Bob Hope. In fact, I think a box set of her specials would be great! (The only one that would probably go missing would be the Nashville one since there would be music rights involved.)
Superbatboy 01-05-2009, 02:34 AM Finally, I've been waiting for The Lucy Show for years!!!
Robert 13 01-20-2009, 11:25 AM I thought for sure we would have heard something by now about "The Lucy Show" on dvd.
Does anybody check out the Still in Love with Lucy Newsletters? He hasn't posted a newsletter since last October and there's usually one every week.
Jude The Obscure 01-20-2009, 11:44 AM I always wait for TVShowsonDVD.com to send an announcement--when they know, you can rest assured it is gonna happen!
ethelmaepotter 01-24-2009, 11:56 PM There really is no way of knowing for certain until an official announcement is made. There have been murmuring from CBS/Paramount for a few years now about an "upcoming" "The Lucy Show" release, and it has yet to happen.
Apparently, "here's lucy" didn't fare well in its original release a few years back, so I am surprised it is getting a second chance.
MPI release the first season of "The Beverly Hillbillies" which contained old prints and not the original music, so not sure if it would be entirely worth it.
Jude The Obscure 01-25-2009, 12:05 AM First off, HL was a successful release for Shout! They did want to do another release, but due to a conflict between show distributor at the time, Paul Browenstein and Lucy's kids, they were not allowed. Lucie and Desi Jr waited until Paul's contract to distribute the show expired and now they are taking the show to MPI, who have done good jobs with both The Doris Day Show and Family Affair (both released in entirety).
Secondly, MPI's release of BH was due to the fact that Paul Henning's estate authorized them to release the estate's copies of the first season and half of the second season. Their release did contain the original theme music as well as commercials, etc. MPI could not release anymore since CBS owns the copyright on the remaining BH episodes.
ethelmaepotter 02-13-2009, 03:12 AM I contacted Shout! myself and they said HL was not a good seller.
McGillicuddy 02-16-2009, 06:01 PM MPI is starting to release Here's Lucy this summer and also The Mothers-In-Law, the Desi Arnaz produced show! and 2 Lucy Specials! Now if Paramount would just formally announce The Lucy Show....
EdLuvsLucy 02-26-2009, 01:48 PM I of course recorded Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie when it originally aired and then bought the VHS copy when it was released. Now this past week I purchased it on DVD. For those who have put off buying it I recommend it for the bonus material. There are some commercials that I had never seen and a 31 minute behind the scenes interview with Lucie & Desi. It consists of footage not used in the special but is a great addition. But the reason I mention the disc here is that one of the things featured on it is a Promo for the upcoming Here's Lucy release, which they state will take place in 2009 They also make it clear that they plan to release seasons 1-6. There is also an insert announcing the first Lucille Ball Special DVD containing Lucy Gets Lucky & Three For Two. It is the same shot shown on TVShowsOnDVD.com But I am thrilled about these releases as I am sure everyone is.
I know MPI released The Honeymooners Lost Episodes and more recently the Color Honeymooners and I was very pleased with them for the most part. There was one episode of The Color Honeymooners not released due to music rights.
Benno123 02-26-2009, 09:09 PM The best bonus clip was the outtake of Carole Cook discussing Lucille trying to get pregnant!
