Although I'm not a big fan of the show, I was just wondering why George and Dorothy left their son Harold behind when they went overseas and left him with his brother Steve and his wife Barbara? They could have taken him with them, and he could have went to some of the schools over there.

The onscreen explanation was that they were going for a limited amount of time, and they didn't want to disrupt Harold's education. The real reason was that Bobby Buntrock didn't make a whole lot of money (unlike Don DeFore and Whitney Blake), so dropping him wouldn't have saved much in terms of budget, and keeping him would preserve some continuity.

Great question, perhaps they feared for his safety in the Middle East?
