This was a genius marketing plan for this movie... well for a ****ty movie.

I was 13 when this came out so of course I believed all the hype about it and people saying that this is real footage.

Nobody seemed to not think about how the footage of the last moments of 3 missing, perhaps dead, young adults got commercially released in theaters around the world. Blood money at its finest. I'm sure the parents and families would have caused a stir about this, wouldn't you think so?

Despite all that the film grossed in the millions.

I remember how they tried to pretend it was real for the first few weeks, and then suddenly after it made over $100 million, admitted it was fake.

I think the bigger surprise is that they tried to promote the movie as scary. I mean, I think anyone can get a camcorder, pretend to be lost in the woods and say the f word 300 times and people would be scared by it

I remember buying that DVD as soon as it came out thinking that it's going to be one of the best horror movies ever with the hype and reviews it got and kept waiting for the movie to get scary and instead was rewarded with incredibly bad acting. Heather Donahue won a Razzie for her "performance" that year
