View Full Version : My Dad is Cutting Off My Internet LuLu Rogers 10-22-2008, 10:02 PM Once again, my dad has decided to treat me like **** and take away my internet and TV. I have no idea when I'll get it back. I'll miss you all! :( Wreckless 10-22-2008, 10:05 PM Why what happened? Is it just cause he can and he's that way. Reminds me of my parents- specifically my Mom. She used to read my AIM IMs as well, didn't appreciate it at all. I hope everything goes alright with you and your Dad at home, I'm here to talk. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 10-22-2008, 10:10 PM I'm sorry, Lauren...that definitely doesn't sound fair. :( Hopefully you can come back soon, we'll miss you. Theda Bara 10-22-2008, 10:14 PM WHY? and what the heck??? It is not like you are not trying to find a job or to better yourself. I think this treatment, is totally unfair. You are 21 years old, when is your parents going to treat you like an adult??? They do not freaking realize on what a wonderful, good hearted, well mannered, intelligent daughter they have. I am sorry for venting, but, sometimes the way they treat you is, completely ridiculous:rolleyes: 70s show watcher 10-22-2008, 10:18 PM im so sorry lauren i sure hope you can come back here soon LuLu Rogers 10-22-2008, 10:19 PM Dad said he's been patient with me for too long. Is it my fault that I have bad health and there are NO jobs in this small town I live in? ohno: I'd give my back teeth to be able to move away! Unfortunately, I have no where to go, no one to stay with. He just told me to get off now, so I'm gone :( Janice 10-22-2008, 10:22 PM NOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad we have each other's phone numbers. TV too, wow. The tv and internet are what keep me going, lol. We'll keep in touch. Wreckless 10-22-2008, 10:45 PM Dad said he's been patient with me for too long. Is it my fault that I have bad health and there are NO jobs in this small town I live in? ohno: I'd give my back teeth to be able to move away! Unfortunately, I have no where to go, no one to stay with. He just told me to get off now, so I'm gone :( I'm so sorry for you, and I can totally relate and I have been in your shoes before, I feel for you. Don't let your Dad push you around, you are not a bad person but people make other people feel bad when they have done NOTHING wrong, much like you haven't. Best of luck. OH Nuts! 10-22-2008, 10:45 PM Once again, my dad has decided to treat me like **** and take away my internet and TV. I have no idea when I'll get it back. I'll miss you all! :( Sorry to hear this Lauren. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that he'll calm down and that maybe you can work out a compromise with him. Wreckless 10-22-2008, 10:46 PM NOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad we have each other's phone numbers. TV too, wow. The tv and internet are what keep me going, lol. We'll keep in touch. Same for me Janice lol. I am a bum without my computer/internet specifically and my television. lol. MonarC 10-22-2008, 10:50 PM Sorry to hear that. I can totally relate I had very controling parents as well. I could not wait to move out. Gotta have my freedom. Wreckless 10-22-2008, 10:53 PM ^ Yup. I can't wait until I get on my Billy Joel and move out LOL. you're lucky Ardis, parents just don't understand lol. MusicJunkie 10-22-2008, 10:57 PM I am so sorry Lauren. You are 21, too bad your dad doesn't realize you're an adult and treat you like one instead of doing something he'd do to a ten year old. MonarC 10-22-2008, 11:01 PM Sometimes parents can be too strict. Maybe they mean well but it sometimes it seems like it does more bad then good. Schmoopie 10-23-2008, 12:49 AM Sometimes parents can be too strict. Maybe they mean well but it sometimes it seems like it does more bad then good. That's very true. I didn't move out until I was about 22, and it was hard living under my mom's rules, even though I was a college sophomore. I liked having my freedom. That's why when I moved out, I lived by myself and continued to do so until I got engaged. Andrea dawsongirl 10-23-2008, 12:57 AM So cutting off your internet and TV is going to make you get a really good job in a small town? That's logical. O_O And I love that statement...I've been patient with you too long. Like he was waiting for you to quit drugs or stop drinking. InspectorExstead 10-23-2008, 01:13 AM what the heck. both the internet AND tv?! that's extreme. :( i'm sorry. i hope your dad stops being annoying and you can come back on here. you'll be missed! Chocoholic 10-23-2008, 02:51 PM I'm sorry, Lauren. :( Your parents sound absolutely unreasonable. You are 21, not 12. Keep up with the job search. I know you'll find something soon :) sunshinefizzy 10-23-2008, 03:21 PM Sorry about this Lulu. Maybe you ought to go to the bookstore and get a copy of Toxic Parents cause that sounds like your old man. God bless. Big C 10-23-2008, 03:33 PM What does he want you to do- read crappy books? TripperFan 10-23-2008, 03:51 PM I am so sorry Lauren. You are 21, too bad your dad doesn't realize you're an adult and treat you like one instead of doing something he'd do to a ten year old. I agree - Dr. Phil should hear about this one. I can see "punishing" a child and taking away that sort of stuff, but to a 21 year old ADULT? So now no internet - I'd ask him just how he expects you to find a job without it now. I know when I was without a phone, internet and t.v. for a few days I was going bananas - I feel for ya Lauren. TripperFan 10-23-2008, 03:53 PM Sorry about this Lulu. Maybe you ought to go to the bookstore and get a copy of Toxic Parents cause that sounds like your old man. God bless. That would be great - dad walks into the living room and she's reading a book with that title on it? The t.v. would be flicked on so fast it would make your head swim!! Theda Bara 10-23-2008, 04:47 PM What does he want you to do- read crappy books? No, he wants her to get a job. Which is unfair, since there are not a lot of job opporunities in her area. I mean, Lauren, is a good kid. She does not drink, smoke, screw around, etc. I just think, it sucks, that her parents treat her like she is a child, instead of the mature, adult that she is... AB 10-23-2008, 04:49 PM Dad said he's been patient with me for too long. Unfortunately, I have no where to go, no one to stay with. He just told me to get off now, so I'm gone :( I'm so sorry LuLu, I know it's hard living with strict parents. Maybe he will reconsider. LuLu Rogers 10-24-2008, 12:34 AM Shhh! I figured out a way to sneak on when he's asleep, let's just hope he doesn't find out ;) Fleet 10-24-2008, 12:43 AM Shhh! He cut it on for my mom to use and forgot to cut it back off  ;) treky 10-24-2008, 02:28 AM well, I hope you find a way to get it back, hon. We'll all miss you around here. And, that's awfully mean of your father to do that!!! You're 21, for gods sake!!!! It's not your fault you're not working, you're a nice girl, even though I don't know you personally, I can tell you are. Wreckless 10-24-2008, 02:40 AM He cut it on for my mom to use and forgot to cut it back off  ;) Nice, no offense but on his part, how stupid! Although that might not offend you lol, good you're back on. MrRetro_08 10-24-2008, 01:53 PM my dad has decided to treat me like **** and take away my internet and TV Unluckly :( Scoobiedoo30 10-24-2008, 02:35 PM Why is your dad doing this to you LuLu Rogers 10-24-2008, 02:47 PM Why is your dad doing this to you To "punish" me for not having a job. Too bad he forgot to actually turn it off  Scoobiedoo30 10-24-2008, 02:54 PM he can not Punish you you are 21 year's old coffield3 10-24-2008, 10:03 PM Oh gosh!! This is wrong! Is there anyway that you could get your own place? Your not a child, he should not treat you like one. coffield3 10-24-2008, 10:04 PM To "punish" me for not having a job. Too bad he forgot to actually turn it off  ??? So your back online? Courtnee 10-24-2008, 10:34 PM Youre an adult. He can't "ground" you. Scoobiedoo30 10-24-2008, 10:45 PM Yes you are an Adult he can not Ground you and it your desicison if you want to work. LuLu Rogers 10-24-2008, 11:25 PM ??? So your back online? Until he realizes he forgot to cut if off, LOL My parents say that as long as I live in their house I have to do EXACTLY what they tell me to do, which means no going out after 11pm, no alcohol even though I'm legal, I can only watch certain things on TV, I get a lecture if I go see an "R" rated movie, I can't go to a bar or club with my friends even if I promise not to drink, I have to tell them exactly where I'm going, who I'm going with and when I'll be back, and no TV on Sundays  I know what you're thinking, move out! I'd LOVE to, but I have $3 to my name :( dawsongirl 10-24-2008, 11:38 PM Until he realizes he forgot to cut if off, LOL My parents say that as long as I live in their house I have to do EXACTLY what they tell me to do, which means no going out after 11pm, no alcohol even though I'm legal, I can only watch certain things on TV, I get a lecture if I go see an "R" rated movie, I can't go to a bar or club with my friends even if I promise not to drink, I have to tell them exactly where I'm going, who I'm going with and when I'll be back, and no TV on Sundays  I know what you're thinking, move out! I'd LOVE to, but I have $3 to my name :( That's the definition of OVERPROTECTIVE. And of all the kids I grew up with who had parents like that, they almost all rebelled and gave their parents more trouble than had they been given a bit of freedom and trust. Schmoopie 10-25-2008, 12:13 AM Until he realizes he forgot to cut if off, LOL My parents say that as long as I live in their house I have to do EXACTLY what they tell me to do, which means no going out after 11pm, no alcohol even though I'm legal, I can only watch certain things on TV, I get a lecture if I go see an "R" rated movie, I can't go to a bar or club with my friends even if I promise not to drink, I have to tell them exactly where I'm going, who I'm going with and when I'll be back, and no TV on Sundays  I know what you're thinking, move out! I'd LOVE to, but I have $3 to my name :( Wow, that's harsh! No TV on Sundays? What's up with that? When I turned 21 and was living at home after returning from college, my mom would actually get mad if I asked her if I could go somewhere. I was so used to asking permission, though! She told me that all she asks is that I call her if I'm not going to be home by 1am. I hope you are able to move out as soon as possible. Do you have any friends that have apartments you could room with? Andrea treky 10-25-2008, 02:14 AM Until he realizes he forgot to cut if off, LOL My parents say that as long as I live in their house I have to do EXACTLY what they tell me to do, which means no going out after 11pm, no alcohol even though I'm legal, I can only watch certain things on TV, I get a lecture if I go see an "R" rated movie, I can't go to a bar or club with my friends even if I promise not to drink, I have to tell them exactly where I'm going, who I'm going with and when I'll be back, and no TV on Sundays  I know what you're thinking, move out! I'd LOVE to, but I have $3 to my name :( ONYGOD!!! Your parents acctually do all that to a 21 year old????  that's definetaly being overprotective!!! You don't deserve to be treated like that, you're 21 years old!!!! I just hope they wake up to that fact, and soon!!!! I would never, never, never even think of treating a daughter like a little kid which is what they're doing to you!!! ekkostar 10-25-2008, 09:44 AM There's actually been talk about my mother not paying for the internet, but it's more of a money situation. She also wants to get rid of at least one of the DirecTV tiers. The only reason I think she hasn't removed internet is because there are times I need it for college so I can keep in touch with professors and submit things on blackboard. If it were a case, I wouldn't mind hanging out on campus and using their wi-fi if I had to. Scoobiedoo30 10-25-2008, 06:59 PM I sure hope your dad let's you stay online. MrCleveland 10-25-2008, 07:16 PM I still live with my parents, and I'll be 26 next Sunday. They don't give a damn if I even stay here until I'm 40, but I'm planning on moving on January 20th. Like the President and Anthony, I will be moving out! Wreckless 10-25-2008, 10:07 PM There's actually been talk about my mother not paying for the internet, but it's more of a money situation. We take tests online, submit assignments and so much more. But yeah Lauren, don't take that crap from your parents, I know they are your parents but my Dad is an a**hole and I'm sick of his sh*t. No matter the authority, no person deserves to be treated like that. Doodyville10019 10-26-2008, 04:12 PM Dad said he's been patient with me for too long.
