If I remember correctly, I always thought Doogie was known as a "drama". I mean, it was funny, but it certainly wasn't traditional sitcom fare. Wasn't it an hour long as well? I swear, I think I'm losing my memory...

It's more dramedy (drama/comedy) then sitcom but I've listed it anyway. The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows book lists it as a sitcom.

Anyways, it's not really labeled as a drama either. It's a dramedy.

God, I haven't watched Doogie Howser in YEARS, but I loved it. Great show. Toward the end, I remember people at school saying that it wasn't as good because he was getting older and almost at the age where he could pass for a doctor.

I always thought it was a sort of sitcom but with no laugh track. It did have it's dramatic moments, so I guess it could be classified as a "dramedy"

I never considered it a sitcome...just a regular series....sitcoms to me are shows that have nice plots where You laughing pretty much all the time....even tho there are serious themes into them.....Dougie Houser wasn´t like that to me.....and of course there was no laughter...it was done before a live audience and on

I know what you mean. It was serious, with funny, witty dialogue. I don't even remember a laugh track. But whatever one would call it, I enjoyed this high quality show.

I didn't see this post, must need glasses, lol. This is not a sit com because it's a 30 minute show it gets lumped in as a sit com. There are many drama show around with a odd character who does something funny just like this. This is a drama with elements of comedy. This is like saying Boston Legal is a comedy because of a few funny things.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I consider it a sitcom in the way The Wonder Years was. I believe both were on the same night together for a while (along with Growing Pains), too.
