I finally sat down and watched the movie musical Moulin Rouge! tonight.

They never really explained or said exactly what Kidman's character is ill with. She suffers from coughing fits and fainting spells. At the end of the film she dies from it.

What exactly was she supposed to have?

I thought they said in the movie that she had consumption, which is what they call used to call Tuberculosis.
