View Full Version : Skipping School
MonarC 10-21-2008, 12:06 PM Did you ever skip a class or even a whole day of school? Where did you go? What did you do?
I was always afraid to skip class or school till about my freshman year in High School. I skipped a day or two here and there and we would go to the beach and hang out at a friends beach house. Other times we would just go to someones houes whose parents weren't home and hang out watch movies and stuff. I miss those days sometimes.
robyrob 10-21-2008, 01:37 PM i skipped lots in highschool - in the eleventh grade they told me I had 183 unexplained absences (I believe that was number of classes), but I was one of the top students in the school, so they didn't really do much to me - besides, I brought a NOTE.
Scoobiedoo30 10-21-2008, 02:40 PM I skiped School but my Dad was in the hospital at the time and the teacher who I had told me that I had 75 Unexplained Absences The teacher who told me that I had 75 Unexplained Absences was picking on me
Wreckless 10-21-2008, 02:54 PM Damn Rob, that's about what I had lol. The one year in highschool I skipped this one class like 150 times, but it wasn't like a regular math, science etc. type class, and I skipped a lot of classes senior year.
Hollow 10-21-2008, 03:04 PM i never really ditched until my first year of college and it was only to sleep in because i was lazy. i always felt bad about it afterward because i felt like i wasted the time. i've been to all my classes this year except one, but it was because i would drop it later that day. if for nothing else, then because i'm getting paid to go to school and if i miss one class, i lose all payment for that day.
MonarC 10-21-2008, 03:05 PM I was really bad my jr. year. I skipped all the time. I would even make up fake excuses saying I was sick. I know that was bad but I hated school. Some how I still managed to graduate with pretty good grades.
catlover79 10-21-2008, 03:13 PM I never skipped school - I was too much of a goody-goody (and a wuss).
browneyes106 10-21-2008, 03:20 PM I skipped a few times during high school. I would go shopping or go out with friends.
MonarC 10-21-2008, 03:53 PM I never skipped school - I was too much of a goody-goody (and a wuss).
You were probably that kid who I always admired, who always had good grades and perfect attendance. :D
My buddies and i built a tree house in near by woods, and we would skip school and hang out there all day.
Brieannas21 10-21-2008, 04:21 PM I skipped school a lot my freshman yr in High School. I would either not go to school or I would leave school early and miss my last two classes. I would leave school early to go over to my boyfriend house, we would go eat, go to the mall, or I would just go home. The days when I didn't go to school I would say home with my mom because at the time my mom had been in a very bad car accident. That was probably one of the most stupidest things that I did in High School because I ended up missing 18 days all together, and I had to go to Truancy Court, and my parents had to pay a $200 fine. My parents and I had to go to this Saturday meeting thing for 5 hrs. So in the end my parents weren't too happy with me lol
InspectorExstead 10-21-2008, 04:40 PM i never ditched school until my first year of college. i had an 8 am class but the teacher would never actually lecture so i skipped once and decided to sleep in. i have ditched other classes since then but now not so much.

I bet they were not too happy.
dawsongirl 10-21-2008, 07:58 PM I never skipped in HS, but I did all the time in college. 99% of the time, it was anxiety though, so it wasn't like I was skipping just to skip. I just could NOT sit through the class without panicing. And that wasn't until my sophomore year. My junior year was baaaad. Sometimes I went home, but most of the time I went to the library or hid somewhere because I wanted my dad to think I went to class. I sat in my car a lot.
Courtnee 10-21-2008, 08:17 PM I haven't really skipped any. The only time I miss school is if I'm sick or something important.
littlebelle 10-21-2008, 09:53 PM All the time. If it was a sunny day (BIG deal in Sea-town), my friends and I would ditch class and cruise Alki. I sometimes got in trouble with the school about it and teachers would try and give me bad grades, even though I was turning my work in.
BarneyFife 10-21-2008, 10:07 PM I was a wild child growing up. I skipped school so many times, i'm surprised my mom never found out. I would hang out at a girlfriends house while her mother was at work. I finally got caught and the principal busted my butt for it, but he never called my parents.
HuntingtonM15 10-21-2008, 10:50 PM I never skipped in HS, but college is a different story. If it's a class that does not apply directly to my major and the professor lectures straight out of the book or reads Powerpoints word-for-word, I tend not to go. However, if it's a class that applies to my major or an important class in general, I almost never miss.
Schmoopie 10-22-2008, 03:25 AM i never really ditched until my first year of college and it was only to sleep in because i was lazy. i always felt bad about it afterward because i felt like i wasted the time.
Oh God, I can totally relate to this. I was always oversleeping or else missing on purpose. Of course I totally regret it now and wish I could do my first two years of college over again. I think I did it not only because I was lazy, as you mentioned, but because in college, you don't have to have a note and there's no disciplinary action. However I think that the consequences of missing classes in college-for me anyway, was my getting a terrible GPA and not being able to have the career that I wanted.
I have a couple of stories about "skipping school" though.
First one happened in the 3rd grade. My mom would drop me off at school early and I would stand outside by the front door with my friends until the bell rang for us to go inside. My friend Cheryl discovered that she had forgotten her Spelling homework (as usual) and she was going to walk home to get it. She always asked me to go with her, but I always declined. Well, this day I decided to go.
Bad choice. :nonono:
We left school and walked to her apartment which was about 15 minutes away. When we got there, we stood in the alley way and I waited for her to climb over her fence to get into her apartment. I didn't have a watch on but it seemed like it was taking a really long time for her to get the stuff and come back. At one point I felt like running back to school and leaving her there. Just as I was about to, she climbed back over the fence. When we got to school and walked into our room, our teacher said "You girls are 20 minutes late!" We didn't get in trouble or anything, but that was the only time I'd ever "skipped" school. Really, my intention in the whole thing was just to be gone a few minutes and get back to school on time, so I don't really consider it skipping.
Now here's where the REAL stupidity happens. That afternoon my mom picked me up from school and I was so "proud" of what I had done that I told her about it!:bonk:  :cuckoo OMG, she totally FREAKED and started yelling at me. :cuss: I think it was... well, obviously because it was wrong to miss school anyway, but also because she probably worried about my safety. I hate to think what could have happened-and even more so these days.I distinctly remember her telling me that she wouldn't tell my dad, because he would :schmack: the crap out of me if he knew about it! Those weren't her exact words but that's what he would have done!
That was the only time I ever missed class like that. We used to have "Senior Skip Day" but by the time I was a senior it had progressed to every WEEK! The week that our Senior term papers were due, my teacher told our English class that she didn't care if we skipped, but we had to find a way to get our papers in on that day. I would always jokingly ask my mom if I could skip and she said "Sure, but I won't write you a note." After thinking about it, I decided it was easier to go to school.
So anyway, on the Friday we were supposed to turn in our term papers, only FIVE people showed up for class. My teacher was TICKED OFF! We had like 15 people in our class. She told the five of us that since we showed up, we would get 20 extra points added to our final grade of our term papers, which was really cool since I ended up getting a 95 (75+20) on the thing! Those term papers were like 80% of our grade!
And a funny story from when I was in 9th grade. My grandmother had picked me up from school to take me to the dentist and then drove me back after we ate lunch. When we got back, there was still about 20 minutes left of my art class. I was going to go back to school but I decided to sit in the car and just go in right before my next class started. While we were sitting there, I looked up to see my entire art class looking out the front window and pointing at me. God I was embarrassed! Especially when I saw the teacher watching me too! The next day he asked me why I was sitting there and I explained it to him, but I don't think he really understood my logic of missing his class!
Another time was when I was in college. I was feeling VERY nauseated and I decided not to go to PE. I didn't have a car so I ended up walking about three blocks to the nearest grocery store to buy some Pepto Bismol for my upset stomach. It was during finals week, and we didn't really have a final in PE so I thought it would be okay. So I get my grades over Christmas break and I see that I had a big "F" in my gym class! It freaked me out and my mom had a fit! So I went back to school and asked the gym teacher what gives. He said that it's policy that if a final exam is missed for any reason, the grade for the class is an automatic "Fail". If I had known this, by God I would have gone to class. I wish they would have mentioned these things beforehand.

Wreckless 10-22-2008, 04:04 AM nice stories Andrea, I wonder, do you HAVE to take PE in college? I don't think you do.
PunkyP0WER 10-22-2008, 06:48 AM i skipped both whole days and classes. if i skipped just a class i hung out in the girls room or the stairwell or if it was midday i'd go attend all 3 lunch periods. i would skip if it was a difficult class like guitar class - i was horrible at it and the teacher was a witch, or if we had a class where we had to work in groups - i'm terribly shy of talking to new people especially in a pressure stuation where you have to get something done or i'd skip if it was a class where other kids made fun of me.

Karen* 10-23-2008, 04:11 AM I do it all the time to catch up on work for other classes. I'm in my third year of college, BTW.
Wreckless 10-23-2008, 06:13 AM I ditched western civ. last week lol, although I wasn't feeling well for the most part and it attributed to me not wanting to go to class, so I didn't. First time I skipped in a long time.
gidgetgrape 10-23-2008, 09:48 AM I never skipped school - I was too much of a goody-goody (and a wuss).
Me too! One day I got out of class about an hour early (it was a 2 period class) because some kids convinced a teacher we needed to be released early for a pep rally. I rode to another part of town with some other kids and we ended up being in traffic right next to my mom! It was like that scene in Ferris Bueller where Ferris is in the car next to his dad. I totally flipped out and was scared to death my mom would mention it later that night. She never did so I guess she didn't see me.
PlayOn 10-23-2008, 04:45 PM i skipped all the time. i always told my mom i was sick and just stayed home and watched TV or did some writing. nothing else. no sneaking out or anything. lol. yea, i'm a dork.

 That's just hilarious.
MonarC 10-23-2008, 06:26 PM I went throught this really rebelious stage in High School. Mainly cause I had very strict parents. I was in "In School Suspension" or ISS as they call it for missing so many days. Then I made up a note and signed my moms name saying that I had a Dr. apt. I showed it to the ISS teacher who was incharge at the moment. He said I had to get approval from the principal before i could leave. So that's all it took. I busted a move out there. On my way out the doors heading to my car in the parking lot the principal just so happened to be comming around the corner and saw me. I took off running so fast. He chased me for a little while, but not far. I got away for the rest of the day. That was very exciting for me, the adrenaline was pumping as you can imagine. It was fun at the time but it only lead to more "ISS" and they watched me like a hawk after that. Ahhh good times.
Wreckless 10-23-2008, 08:09 PM That's hilarious about being on the same road, side by side next to your Mom car length when you skip school lol. It IS like the Ferris Bueller soon.
My Mom, not to sound mean, but was a school nazi. She NEVER let me skip. One year, I hadn't missed a day, or I missed like one day going into the ongoing months of December-February. I had family coming in and they had planned a day trip to New York and she wouldn't even let me go to that. I understand a little bit of her reasons, but she was too harsh and some people might look at me sideways but they also don't understand the nature of my parents and life. My Dad, despite his ways, doesn't care if I go or not. That's why I work towards my career through school all by myself. With the help of my Mom financially of course.
InspectorExstead 10-23-2008, 09:42 PM i've been skipping one of my classes a lot lately. unfortunately, it's a class for one of my majors, but the material isn't difficult. i just cannot stand the teacher for the life of me. she belittles you if you don't have the same opinion as her and makes her opinion known loud and clear. she's told the entire class how they should vote in this election- from presidential candidates to propositions. and she goes "i can't force you to vote this way, but if you don't...then you don't have a heart/you're not human/you're dumb..." ah. i HATE teachers that give you their opinion. have your opinions, that's fine. just leave them out of the classroom, especially when they don't involve the subject students are supposed to learn about. sometimes i wish i had enough patience to become a teacher so i could be the complete opposite of all of the teachers i've had. but basically, i skip this class a lot and i don't feel guilty about it. i usually don't get pissy/annoyed easily and the first couple of weeks it was alright, but she's just too annoying and the class is a waste of my time.
Number 9 Dream 10-23-2008, 11:05 PM I used to skip a LOT in high school. I'd make up excuses like I was "sick" or "too tired." I'm surprised my Mom actually gave into me  She had work early in the morning herself and couldn't be bothered being late on account of me, lol. Most of the time I'd just sleep in, then veg on the couch watching talk shows. A few times I actually met up with friends.
However, I rarely miss college classes. I make my schedules to suit my habits (i.e., I schedule them around late afternoon/evening, so I can sleep in all I want). The only times I miss a class is if I haven't used my three excused absences and feel like I want a day off (to veg, shop, hang with friends, etc). But that's rare. I actually LIKE college *gasp* I hated high school most of the time, though.
Schmoopie 10-24-2008, 03:10 AM nice stories Andrea, I wonder, do you HAVE to take PE in college? I don't think you do.
Well, this was back in 1986, and I was just taking basic classes. I think a PE class was required but I wasn't able to take any of the "fun" stuff since it was my first semester. The really funny thing is that I ended up getting a doctor's note to be excused from it because of some mobility problems I was having. I didn't expect to be excused for the entire class! But that's what happened, so every day I would just go to class and sit there, watching them run laps or whatever!:bored:

veggie-tari-jenn 10-25-2008, 01:40 AM Nope never really did that...I was a goody goody and would never do something like that...hehe...But I wish I would have...:) :D
