BLUE ASH, Ohio – Police in Ohio say an 89-year-old woman is facing a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children accuse her of refusing to give back their football.

Edna Jester was arrested last week in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash.
Police say one child's father complained that Jester kept the youngsters' ball after it landed in her yard. Police Capt. James Schaffer says there has been an ongoing dispute in the neighborhood over kids' balls landing in the woman's yard.

Jester said Monday she has received many calls and didn't have time to discuss the matter any more.

Jester is to appear in court next month. The maximum penalty for a petty theft conviction in Ohio is six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

sounds odd. last i checked a stolen item has to be worth at least $50 to qualify for petty theft, you wouldn't think a football would cost that much. though maybe they're including all of the balls that she's been keeping and the first line of the article was taken out of context for shock value.

This has got to be one of the DUMBEST news stories I've ever heard!!

Obviously, these moms and dads were NOT baby bommers, to say the least.

If they WERE, they would do what we did growing up in the '50s and '60s when we kicked, tossed, bounced or whatever'd the ball in a neighbor's yard who was a pain in the toocus (yeah, I had a neighbor like that; actually I had 3 neighbors like that)....and that is RUN INTO THEIR YARD WHEN THEY'RE EITHER NOT HOME OR SOUND ASLEEP AND GET THE DAMN BALL!! Unless she had a Rotweiler the size of Brian Urlacher...then we'd LET her keep the ball!

However, if we threw, bounced, etc. the ball and it broke the neighbor's window, then we'd have two problems - the neighbor AND our parents!
