Did she have a large role in the episode? Which year was that episode of Incredible Hulk? Probably right after GT left the air I'm guessing.

That's cool, I'd like to see that episode. Rolle was a great actress.

What I did not like about the episode is that at the end, they seemed to hint that The Hulk and Esther Rolle's character were attracted to each other. They stared each other down while some sexy sax music played. I was wondering if they were implying that. I would find that a bit demeaning if that were the case.

Esther should have played the Abomination.

I recently watched this episode, and it seems to me that Esther Rolle was being presented as /sensitive/ to The Hulk, seeing that he was more than a "monster", kind of like she could sense that this was Banner buried in there somewhere.

OK fair enough. They've had characters have that sensibility before, but the music was more piano like, not a jazzy sax sound. But I can see your point.

I recall that Banner and Rolle's characters got along very well, I took it that she sensed, or figured out that Hulk was actually Banner.

But yes, a romance between Rolle and The Hulk would be kind of... odd.

Later in the comics, in the 1980s, there were some fairly bizarre romances, notably The Swamp Thing and the human Abby.

And of course the Thing and Alicia from The Fantastic Four... so in the comics context, the Hulk and a human female having a bit of romance would maybe be kind of strange but not really unheard of.

Network television in the 1970s was another thing altogether though.

It might have made a nice direction if Good Times could have veered into this more serious style rather than dipping so far into J.J.'s slapstick stuff.
