View Full Version : Any classic sitcoms fans under 30 out there?
FanofRetroTV 10-15-2008, 09:11 AM Hello, I'm new to this board. I in my 20s and I love the classic sitcoms. They are 10 times better then anything on today. I love them all, my favorites includes The Dick Van Dyke Show (my all time fav), Andy Griffith, Beverly Hillbillies, Get Smart, Bewitched, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, MASH, the Jeffersons, Barney Miller, WKRP, Three's Company, Cheers, Growing Pains, and Newhart. Theres lots more, but I can not think of them right now. However, everyone I know does not watch any of these "moody oldies," of which I love. And I was wondering if there are anyone my age out there who does. I just want to make sure I'm not a wield goofball from the plant odd or something.
I look forward to taking with people on this board!
sandra42 10-15-2008, 10:50 AM Glad I have a kindred spirit with classic shows

MickeyMac 10-15-2008, 05:46 PM Right here
My whole life(even before I got to 30) I have always gone for classic shows(we're talking stuff before 1969 here).
Very few shows past that move me.
Wreckless 10-15-2008, 05:49 PM I am 20, and I love classic sitcoms as well. I love a lot of sitcoms from the '70s, some from the '80s and a bunch from the '90s. I even like Sitcoms from back in the '60s- i.e. Gilligan, I Love Lucy (although that is a '50s into the '60s show) and others. Welcome aboard the site, have a good time!
benjamoon 10-15-2008, 06:01 PM I'm 21 and I love classic TV shows including I Love Lucy, Bewitched, Dick Van Dyke Show, I Dream of Jeannie, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda, Bob Newhart Show, Hazel, Andy Griffith Show, Taxi, F Troop, Donna Reed Show, Leave it to Beaver, and My Three Sons (and those are just naming SOME of the 50s-70s shows I like)
I've been watching and reading about classic TV ever since I started watching Nick at Nite way back in 1995 (when I was 8!)
dawsongirl 10-15-2008, 09:33 PM Me! Most of my collection is "classic" TV.
DSfan 10-15-2008, 11:10 PM I am under 30 as well and I love tons of different classic sitcoms mainly from the 80s and 90s but also some from earlier on.
I like some newer shows too, just to mention that. Also, I hate it when people don't appreciate the classic shows or just don't seem to know anything about them. I'm happy that I didn't end up being one of those types who's like "Growing Pains, Wonder Years, Diff'rent Strokes...huh?".
All people care about today is Family Guy. That really annoys me.
Welcome to the boards!
PrettyinPink55 10-15-2008, 11:18 PM Right here!!!
I believe that classic sitcoms stand the test of time and are timeless/ageless!!!!
DSfan 10-15-2008, 11:26 PM It's really going to suck when we get older, in our 50s and 60s and have to be telling our children and grandchildren, the shows that are presently of our time. I would love to introduce them to classic shows that I watched in reruns because they were too old for even myself lol.
friendsfan77 10-15-2008, 11:54 PM Yes, I'm 22, very soon going on 23. I enjoy many oldie shows, as well as some of today's.
factsoflife 10-18-2008, 08:56 PM yup i'm 27 and i love shows from the 80's and 90's...
andress_jade 10-18-2008, 09:53 PM I am 29 and I am a big fan of the classic shows. I always have been for as long as I can remember.
Actually, I find the actors from those shows hot even though they are old enough to be my father and my grandfather.
I think the classic shows are better than a lot of shows that are out now. Some of the shows that are out now are so stupid.
There will never be another I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Munsters, Leave it to Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, The Addams Family, etc.
Or even some of the newer classic shows like Dr. Quinn, Family Ties, Family Matters, Full House, Touched by an Angel, Growing Pains, etc.
You just can't beat classic television.
catlover79 10-21-2008, 03:21 PM Nope, you can't beat the classics. :D We have TASTE!!
I watch older TV shows because that's what I grew up on. My extended family on both sides is pretty much a gigantic group of TV junkies, so no matter who was babysitting me or whatever, there was always the TV on, and so I grew up watching a big variety of stuff. Westerns, soap, game shows, cartoons, children's shows, sitcoms, medical shows, sports, all kinds of stuff...and it's what I love to watch now, so yeah. I will say that I don't watch old stuff because I loathe current stuff. There's a good bit of truly interesting shows currently on TV, IMO.

Welcome to the boards!
i think a lot of the kids and teens who weren't born when those shows were shown on tv should watch the classic shows to be able to appreciate what tv is all about. not the likes of family guy or american idol or the trash that passes for tv nowadays
DSfan 10-21-2008, 07:10 PM I do, however, think some new or newer programs today are worthwhile but I think I stated what I said before wrong. It's not that people shouldn't watch new shows, no matter how bad they may be, what bothers me is when that seems to be the ONLY thing they know how to watch. Like for me I will watch old shows, some new ones like Life on Mars, and sports. But some people just watch American Idol, Family Guy and think they've seen it all. That is what bothers me, that they don't know/appreciate old shows while only watching the new. Everyone should be allowed to watch new shows so that wasn't what I was saying but yeah just agreeing with you that people aren't really aware of the TV times before them.
GameShowFan1986 10-22-2008, 03:47 PM Well, I'm 22 years old and I love classic shows than some of these shows right now...
cyrus 10-23-2008, 10:37 AM I'm 24, and I watch alot of the classic sitcoms.I watch Mary Tyler Moore,Bob Newhart and others.I got interested in them, when I started watching them on Nick at Night about 15 years ago.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 10-24-2008, 07:38 PM *raises hand* I'm 19 but I grew up watching nick at nite so classic sitcoms have a special place in my heart lol. I prefer them to newer shows most of the time (but there are exceptions, see av). I prefer 70's sitcoms the most. For example, Three's Company, Laverne and Shirley, Mary Tyler Moore, Happy Days, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, etc. Love love love them. So yes, we exist. :p My friends tease me a bit (in good fun), but they can shut up and watch their reality shows, I'll take my old sitcoms anyday, thanks.
ekkostar 10-24-2008, 09:36 PM I've always been a classic sitcom fan. The last good decade for sitcoms has really been the 1980s. I don't find stuff from the 1990s as hilarious, not counting The Simpsons. A lot of new stuff like The Office and Earl just doesn't appeal to me (Although Chuck is good and I am hoping for John Larroquette to return as a semi-regular next season). As much as I love Malcolm in the Middle, it sort of murdered the traditional sitcom format.
I watch a lot of Beverly Hillbilies, Andy, Munsters, The Addams Family, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeanie when I notice they're on. Same goes for Taxi, Newhart, Alf, Night Court, Cheers ect. I find classic shows to be a lot funnier than that "random youtube humor with shaky camera" genre that passes for comedy now.
paisleynut 11-07-2008, 08:21 PM Hi! I'm not in my 30's-I'm 46, going on 47. I love watching reruns of "Courtship of Eddie's Father" and I'm a big Brandon Cruz fan. I even created a Yahoo group for his fans:

PeacefulSerenity 11-10-2008, 02:29 AM I am 15 and have loved classic sitcoms since I was 13. I prefer them to today's tv shows as modern sitcoms tend to be mostly based around sex jokes, toilet humour, and pop culture references. My favourites include The Addams Family, Get Smart, I Love Lucy, Green Acres and Bewitched. I still have no idea why most people my own age seem to think Family Guy is the greatest tv show to have ever existed.
We don't get many classic tv shows shown in Australia so I save up my pocket money to buy the dvds. In my opinion it is money well-spent and I always show them to my friends when they come to my house.
USATVFAN 12-29-2008, 12:44 PM I am 18 and I love Classics from the 70s and 80s and most older to mid 90s sitcoms and that really it.

Perfect Strangers

among shows
littletydramon 01-01-2009, 07:07 PM I've been on these forums for years and I just turned 20 a month ago. I grew up watching all the classics, lucy, all in the family, brady bunch, green acres, happy days, and now I've seen way too many shows to count! ^_^ Half of my dvd an tape collection are classic sitcoms from the 80's and before.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 01-01-2009, 08:44 PM I'm 25 and I love classic sitcoms! The only ones I love that are from before I was born are Leave it to Beaver, The Brady Bunch, and Three's Company (I was like 9 months when that ended though). The rest are from when I was little or I watched when I was little in the 90's. All the old classic TGIF sitcoms!
There are NO good sitcoms on anymore. Come to think of it there really isn't any sitcoms period on anymore. Well, maybe Two and half men or a few other shows on CBS. It's all reality show now.
