View Full Version : What Kind of Pets Do You Have (or Prefer/Enjoy)?
Wreckless 10-13-2008, 02:55 AM I was wondering for animal lovers or people that have animals in their house, whatever age, breed, type etc. what animals have you had in the past, have now or do you prefer/enjoy/like? I love cats- I have 2 of them, Snickers and Shadow and I have a puppy who has different names lol, one of them being "Fez" because he is a rare mexican breed and eats things off the floor  like Fez from '70s Show. Anyways, vote on the poll and talk about your pets of galore!! :).
Schmoopie 10-13-2008, 04:52 AM I don't have any pets although we used to have a cat named Fluffy. We got her in 1980 and she died in 1998, I believe... so A LONG time ago, but she lived a long life. Still I really miss her.
I love cats, though. I am always playing with the next door neighbor's cat, so I kind of consider him to be mine! :cat:
I wouldn't mind having a bunny for a pet, though!

PunkyP0WER 10-13-2008, 12:14 PM dogs because they give you unconditional love and affection. my daisy (a yorkie) is so spunky she never fails to make me smile or laugh when i'm down and she mimics my moods. she's also much younger than our 2 other dogs and i think has helped keep them healthy by keeping them active. they just kind of laid around before we got her but now she always has them up and running. she's full of mischief and is so friendly. i would probably love cats too if i wasn't allergic to them.

Oh really, that's cool. :D right now we got Paisley on a little diet. From the back, she's starting to look more like a little pig, than a dog. lol! I like the name Wobbles too. That's funny! Originally we were going to call Paisley Tater Tot, but she didn't react so well to it, so we stuck with her original name.
Purffin 10-13-2008, 02:40 PM My dogs are Tipsy (female) and Chief (male) We call her Tipsy cause she has a white tip on the end of her tail and the tips of her ears are white, all her babies came out with a little white tip on their tails , awww how cute

dawsongirl 10-13-2008, 08:12 PM Only pets I ever had were some hamsters that bit me and a carnival fish that didn't live a week. I'm allergic to cats, so it's an ok thing that I don't like them in the first place. I used to be scared of dogs, but I'm better now. Still don't want one though. I don't have the patience or the love to put up with training or cleaning up after them. Plus I don't have $$.
Not an animal lover really.
Hamsters....worst pets ever.

Stormtracker TF 10-14-2008, 10:32 PM Cats are awesome.
bmasters9 10-15-2008, 11:02 AM I am very much a cat person. I have two cats named Beast and Georgia, both females. Beast, despite her name, is actually very friendly; my nephew Montana had originally named her that because he found her as a stray, and she looked menacing at first. Georgia is a grayish Persian female, who I believe to be the descendant of Charlie, a grayish Persian male that I used to have. I had originally wanted to call Georgia "George," because I thought that it was a male at first; when I discovered that it was a female, I still kept it, but gave it the name "Georgia," a feminine derivative of "George."
phoebe7165 10-15-2008, 12:57 PM Right now: a 7-year-old miniature Dachshund named Heidi; my bestest friend
Past: too many to mention (actually they were mentioned on another thread
and included nine dogs, two parakeets, a Shetland pony, and two rabbits)
My parents had a doxie named Heidi. She loved to chase her tennis ball! May she rest in peace.
Having grown up with doxies, I still have them. Penny is 11, and I think she's a doxie mixed with some beagle. She's a big doxie with long legs but she definitely has a doxie face. She was very rambunctious when I first got her at 2 years old, I almost gave her away because I didn't think I could handle her. I dealt with it, either she just got better, or I just got used to her, I don't know, but now I just love her.
Missy is 9, and I found her as a stray at a truck stop about 7 years ago. I didn't know what breed she was, she looked like a mini border collie. When I took her to the vet, they put her down as a black & white long haired doxie. Everybody who meets her says she's got a doxie face, too. Missy is the sweetest dog, though. I don't know how she became a stray. I can't imagine somebody dumping her off there.
Then there's my cat, Tigger, a grey tabby, who I also found at a truck stop. He's such a great cat, he's so affectionate. When I'm outside with the dogs, he likes to come over to me and rub up against my legs. And he so darn cute!
Janice 10-15-2008, 02:51 PM I'm a dog lover. If I was rich, I'd have 20 dogs, lol. Back in 1989, we were living in an apartment that didn't allow dogs, but did allow cats. I had nothing against cats, but had no experience with them. So, I reluctantly bought a cat who ended up stealing my heart. He's been gone for almost three years now, and I can cry just thinking of him. Now, we can get a dog, but we're not up for the extra work. We have two cats, Lily and Caesar who are the little joys of our life.

Aw, what kind of dog is it? I have a friend whose dog looks exactly like yours, and she's a lab/beagle mix.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 10-15-2008, 04:28 PM My current dog Maggie, a yellow lab. She's a lot bigger now, but still not full size as she's only 8 months right now. The first one is a few months old after she'd just gotten up from a nap, which is why she looks so out of it. The second is from a few weeks ago. Yeah, that's tissue in her mouth. Nothing in the house goes untouched, lol.
My first childhood dog was a yellow lab, too. She died last February. That'd be her in my profile pic.
tv star collector 10-15-2008, 05:52 PM My 7-year-old Dachshund, Heidi, still has a tissue fetish. If she can find a
tissue, she'll tear it up! It's a puppy habit that she never outgrew. If there
is a pair of pants or a shirt lying around, she will use her nose to search the
pockets for a tissue.
Wreckless 10-15-2008, 05:59 PM My little dog eats all my damn tissues too, along with some plastic, mostly paper products & tears at all the trash in the can in my bedroom. Also, our cat went running outside close to about a week ago, and we called for her last night and found her :). She is back home safely now, although she is used to and would be fine in the wild, with other & exotic animals.

Ali is a beagle, he's a little over 3 years old. His name is pronounced like that old boxer Muhammad "Ali". And boy can that dog eat, he's a bottomless pit. He eats his food, the cat's food & our food. He's especially fond of potato chips.

It sounds like you have a full time job just keeping your dog & cat out of trouble.

Oh yeah, my dog is horrible. She's ALWAYS searching the house for things to chew up, and she knows shes not supposed to because as soon as she grabs something she'll mischieveously (sp?) run away with it really quick, and if we try to grab it from her she runs all around the house so we can't get her. gah lol

Boston Terriers rock! My groomer has a couple (well, not MY groomer....my dogs' groomer!) and she says she'll always have one - they have such great personalities on them. Our next door neighbourhood had one that we took care of while they were on vacation - got into gas so bad it could knock a buzzard off a sh*t wagon!!
I had to vote for everything - I love ALL critters - fur, hair, scales, feathers, doesn't matter to me - they're all God's great creatures!
Here's a couple of recent pics of my "kids". They look more like teddy bears than pomeranians, but it's their summer cuts that they love so much. I think Kraft should use them for their peanut butter jars! ;)
LuLu Rogers 10-16-2008, 04:20 PM Aww, look at the pom poms!! :D
TripperFan 10-16-2008, 04:28 PM Aww, look at the pom poms!! :D
Sorry they turned out so huge! I even cropped them and they looked small on my computer before I uploaded. They're practically bigger than the actual pooches are!

Both are absolutely GORGEOUS! I was lucky enough to have a roommate who has a black female lab named Charlie. What personalities they have - quite intelligent and they actually have a sense of humour. Charlie was so goofy - she could be brilliant and stone stupid at the same time!
My male pom will go nuts on tissue too - not the female though.
Still, better than my cats. I've come home at times and they've decided that empty tampon applicators are a blast to bat around the house!

Oh, I love labs. That's what I grew up with and that's what I'll have when I have my own family someday. They really are great. We're thinking our puppy has behavioral issues or ADD or something though, lol, because she's pretty wild. My mom's had plenty of dogs in her life and says she's never seen any this bad. It's not just tissues...it's everything lol. But I love her, when I'm home she invades my bed. :p
Cats, I've never had. But that's hilarious.

Could be she's not getting enough exercise. Charlie cut her toe on glass in a lake this summer and had to completely stay out of the water for 6 weeks. It was a nightmare. She wasn't allowed her usual walks - just enough for a pee, etc.. She drove me right up the wall and ate half my Reeboks which she usually never does. Then she started to chase her tail. It turned out it was because she wasn't getting her usual exercise. She calmed down afterwards. (and she had been a rescue dog - her original owners didn't have the time to walk her so she got out of control then too).
Also, remember, when they're pups (up to the age of 2), they can still be teething and tend to get into things more during that period. My boy went thru 4 pairs of my slippers - left one only until all his adult teeth came in.
(personally, I've always preferred the blondes over black labs, but they're all great personalities - including the chocolates, especially with children).
