My dad has always been a fan of Lesley Gore's music, so I grew up listening to quite a bit of it. Do you know that she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song? She co-wrote "Out Here on My Own" from Fame with her brother Michael. He won the prize for writing the title song from Fame. Cool, huh?

In my preteen years I really liked oldies music and she was one of my favorites. She was actually the first concert I ever went to when I was 12.

My brother became a fan of "Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows" after it was featured on The Simpsons.

She made some pretty good records. In later years a lot of feminists latched on to "You Don't Own Me".
Interestingly enough, a lot of her work was produced by Quincy Jones.

^ That's right - Quincy Jones produced "It's My Party" and many more of her early hits. I think that was his big break in the business.
