I like Cathy Lana the best. She was kind of annoying at times, but alot smarter and funnier then Patty.

Patty! Patty! Patty ! No question she was my favorite character on the show and I still admire Patty Duke today!

I loved both Patty and Cathy. I wanted a Mom and Dad like that, too. I was just a huge fan of the show and still follow Patty's work now. (Have you seen the Bears she is helping sell?) She is on TV a lot during the month on all different channels...I love that! But, I grew up watching "The Patty Duke Show" and wanted to be Patty so badly!!

Cathy. No. Patty. No, wait. Cathy was my favorite in that Ms. Duke enjoyed playing her more - I believe - than she did the role of Patty. Patty was a "normal teenager," and Ms. Duke has stately many times that she was not as comfortable in that role b/c she herself wwas anything but a "normal" - whatever that is, teenager. But Patty was every pre-teenaged version of what the teen years would be like & early teenaged girls saw Patty as Patty Duke - their "idol," so it would have to be Patty for that reason. Plus I identified with Patty Lane's family NY background, which I had recently moved away from geographically. But, on the flip-screen side, or "split-screen" Cathy was the more intriguing personality of the two that permitted Ms. Duke to convey a certain level of maturity that the actress had to actually possess, considering vast professional accomplishments and the "adult" responsibilities that went along with that stardom.

So, it's probably Cathy who is ultimately my favorite cousin/character. But Patty was surely the character I WANTED to be; she was the most popular at school, the most resilient, was the most overtly comedic, dated steadily , etc. - all the things I thought I was supposed to be, or have. Instead, I was more LIKE Cathy - the bookworm, the lover of fine music, the arts ... and the "A" student.

So I guess Cathy.
Or maybe Patty.

Oh, heck. Being a confused teenager during the culturally confused mid-sixties, I suppose I schizophrenically - (and quite naturally) - identified with both of them. My point is (and I do have one!) is that I, first and foremost, worshipped Patty Duke. She was both characters. So I adored them both equally, for different reasons.
