View Full Version : Actors/Actresses who looked better/worse with a new hairdo
Big C 10-06-2008, 10:16 PM Sometimes, an actor or actress can could a lot better or a lot worse with a change in their hairdo/hairstyle (cut, color, change, etc.)
Can you recall anyone who got a lot better or a lot worse with a new hairstyle, in terms of career success/looking better?
Here are my choices:
Best- Lynsey Bartilson AKA Lily from 'Grounded for Life.'
Early on, she played a very entertaining character and was a nice, cute-looking girl.

Later, she changed her hairstyle from bangs to a shorter style.

From that point on, in my eyes, Lily was now really hot.
Worst- Keri Russell
You've all heard the story- Keri cuts hair, 'Felicity' declines slowly but surely in terms of ratings and popularity.
dawsongirl 10-07-2008, 12:33 AM I may be the only person in the world who preferred the second style to the the first. Everyone else who's ever bitched on the internet complained about style #2.
Style #1 - The bob (First couple L&C seasons)
Style #2 - Not the bob (Last L&C seasons)
Style #3 - Long (Now)
Teri Hatcher:
littlebelle 10-07-2008, 12:58 AM Daphne Zuniga on Melrose Place
She's naturally gorgeous, but I thought her short-do in season 1/2 wasn't her best
Seasons 1/2

She looked even more beautiful!
vtunie 10-07-2008, 01:17 AM Well, the classic example of continuously changing hairstyles is the actress who played Janet Wood on Three's Company.
The screenshots below are, in order, from 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981 or 82, and 1983 or 84.
You take your pick. From the time I first saw these, near the end of the original run, I've always liked the look at the very beginning and the very end.
comedyfreak 10-07-2008, 09:00 AM Roseanne is a good example of changing hair styles.
friendsfan77 10-07-2008, 09:24 AM I thought Linda Lavin's longer hair in the beginning of Alice looked better than the short do from later in the run.

Teri Hatcher:
That 1st picture of Teri, she looks just like Phoebe Cates.
sunshinefizzy 10-07-2008, 02:41 PM Not really a sitcom but there was a big giant controversy when Keri Russel cut her hair in season two of Felicity.
I liked her look with both 'dos.
MusicJunkie 10-07-2008, 03:21 PM I know Brandon (Friendsfan) and Robby (Buffyboy) will agree with me here.
James Lafferty on One Tree Hill, he had short hair for the first three seasons, but midway he started letting his hair grow out, and it was pretty long for the start of season 5, and he looked like hell. Luckily, about four episodes in season 5, he cut his hair and has kept it short since. The long hair was horrible on him, and we found out that the creator wanted him to grow it out because Nathan "bottomed out" at the start of season 5 and the long hair was supposed to show how far downhill he'd gone.
his first look (seasons 1-3)

the long hair from hell (beginning of season)

friendsfan77 10-07-2008, 03:28 PM I remember how happy everyone was when Nathan cut that long hair
there was one point when he didn't have the beard but just the long hair. it reminded me of Nancy McKeon when she was on FOL

rofl, I would've had him cut the hair first, then shave. Instead of vice versa. He might've looked good with short hair and facial hair... he looked like Jo the other way
Jude The Obscure 10-07-2008, 07:45 PM Speaking of Nancy McKeon, that big hair she sported in the last season of FOL was atrocious!! She was much cuter when she simply let her hair down from the trademark ponytail in the 6th season.
sandra42 10-07-2008, 07:55 PM I like Katie Holmes shorter style

I always thought Joyce Dewitt resembled Joan Jett at the end of the show

I agree. I'd say most of the girls had the big hair changes by the end of the show. Season 6 was when it started to get with the times and that included the hair. I remember the 6th season eppy when Blair had a mullet. lol
Even Beverly Ann had spiky hair a couple times towards the end
Schmoopie 10-08-2008, 02:04 AM I liked John Stamos' hair much better when he had it cut short in the second season of Full House. I didn't like Dave Coulier's longer hair toward the end.
Julia Louise Dreyfus; I always LOVED her long, curly hair in the beginning of Seinfeld, but I didn't really like her later styles as much. It wasn't the same!
I didn't like Keri Russel's short hair at ALL. Ugh!
Andrea
KurtfromPitts 10-08-2008, 02:09 PM Not a sitcom but, I was disappointed when during the third season of "Promised Land", Wendy Phillips shortened her hair. She was hot during seasons 1-2, but not so in S3.
dawsongirl 10-09-2008, 12:10 AM I liked John Stamos' hair much better when he had it cut short in the second season of Full House.
Agreed. Then it got all sloppy again at the end, but at least the mullet was gone!
Dusty's Fan 10-10-2008, 07:20 AM Lea Thompson cut her hair during the run of Caroline in the City. The new cut was much shorter and kind of wild or daring -- and pretty sexy.
Markie Post had her hair cut while she was doing Night Court. I preferred how she looked with long hair -- and she did (later) let it grow back longer than ever!
Tubehead 10-11-2008, 12:15 AM I didn't like laruns hair on familymatter. i liked it when the show first started. it got ugly when they were still growing up. i also didn't like dainia hair on step by step. she dyed it white. she looked like a old lady.
megamanj2004 10-13-2008, 04:02 PM What about Marlo Thomas from "That Girl?"
I liked her do a lot better from her earlier seasons than her later seasons. By the time the early '70s rolled around, she looked like a little too hippy-like. I know it was the end of the '60s going into the '70s, BUT...ohno:
Same could be said about Jo's mullet toward the end of FoL, too.
Same with Todd Bridges in the final season of Diff'rent Strokes when he had that god-awful Michael Jackson-like Jerri Curl hairstyle. ohno:

I posted in the Full House forum that I didn't like Candace Cameron's really short bob hairstyle during the last season.
