As if the wait for Seasons 5-7 of the multiple-Emmy winning The Mary Tyler Moore Show wasn't excruciating enough, when one goes to TVShowsonDVD.com, one can see a daily list of shows being put out on DVD while our favorite languishes, incomplete.
My idea was to occasionally highlight some of the more absurd DVDs being released, in hopes that it will jog someone, anyone, with any kind of a conscience into an even quicker release of 5-7 of TMTMS. Feel free to check the site once in a while to highlight your personal (non)favorites. If not, I'll probably keep contributing; it kills the time, anyway:

Captains and the Kings (mini-series) The Classic 1976 Drama Miniseries is Coming to DVD in January

COMMENT: One word comes to mind -- Thrillsville...I don't remember it in 1976, and I don't remember it in 2008...and I'm sure "classic" is a stretch.

In closing, I was going to say if I ever offend your personal favorite, feel free to tell me why your show should be out there...but somehow I don't think I'm gonna get any dissenters on this one.

Oh my PGood, a dissenter on your first reply!

With all the junk being released on DVD I can think of some series that are less deserving of a DVD release. I remember the name "Captains and the Kings" but don't remember if I saw any of it. I was a teenager when it was originally on TV and probably would have been out playing or doing homework when it was airing. However, it does have an all star cast and won some Emmy and Golden Globe awards so it can't be complete garbage. An IMDB review called it the best mini series ever made! Being a Henry Fonda fan, I may have to check it out.

Now about those bad DVD releases, why would anybody buy a best of Judge Judy DVD?

^ oh wow I really don't know about the Judge Judy thing. I watch it with my grandma sometimes, and shes funny, but if you watch it once you don't want to watch it again. I know some people say that about shows like MTM but MTM is CLASSIC COMEDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about Pink Lady & Jeff, My Big Fat Greek Life, etc.? Forget why they were released before MTM, why were they released at ALL???

Ha ha...OK Larry, I admit I didn't do my homework on "Captains and the Kings", if you say it had an all-star cast and got good reviews.
It just seemed the most stodgy thing on the TVShowsonDVDlist that day, but in general I'd still say, "How about releasing complete series before we delve into releasing miniseries!"
But this is exactly the type of debate I was aiming for. I know there are at least one or two other shows people can look at on that list daily and say, "They released that and they didn't release The Mary Tyler Moore Show?!"

I know. I can just picture him and Dukes of Hazzard's Enos Strate sitting side by side, each reading a copy and sipping Kool Aid.
