I know you ELR fans have to admit that after Patricia Heaton in real life has had the plastic surgeries to fix herself- the show was not the same!
It made it look like the character, Debra, went out and spent tons of Ray's money on plastic surgery.
After season 3\4, the show pretty much sucks.

I thought the show got better as time went on. I love Amy's family, though, so that has a lot to do with my opinion. :)

Some of the funniest episodes are in the later seasons. Probably the funniest, with the most hilarious scene in the series (when the head of the retirement village tells Ray and Debra he is kicking Frank and Marie out) are the Retirement Village episodes.

The humor did get more and more mean-spirited as the show went on. It wasn't always a good thing.

When you watch the earlier episodes, you see the most pronounced changes in the way Debra is writtren. In earlier episodes she is a much nicer person--nicer to everyone, especially Ray.
As time went on they wrote her meaner, with much more of a temper. This probably climaxed in Bad Moon Rising, which even had her violent.
I agree with the last comment...that mean spirited is not always a good thing. Sometimes it is though, because some of these are the funniest episodes. Bad Moon Rising, e.g., is rated by most as one of the best. But other times you think, geez, does EVERYTHING have to be a fight?

^ To me, the last couple of seasons are almost unwatchable. The yelling, screaming and insults became WAY too much. :(

I agree with you. I loved watching Everybody Lobes Raymond the first couple of seasons, but then they had to get nastier and nastier to the point I just turned it off. I cringe when I see the show now. If I wanted to see family members aruge, I'd invite my father's relatives over for Sunday dinner.
I think there are some great episodes and great moments from every season, but the overall "tone" of the show seemed to get more and more abrasive in the later seasons.

I love the show and it doesn't matter what season it's in. But, I hate Debra! I never did like her. I see her as a mean and controlling person, the very thing that she accuses Marie of time and time again. She treats Ray like crap. She is totally my least favorite on the show.
lol. I think she treats Ray accordingly. They're really funny together. Ray's funny, but usually because of Debra, bantering on her.
