Its election season and TV Land is offering viewers the chance to voice off on a homefront issue of grave importance: Who should be the first family of TV Land-- The Taylors (Andy, Aunt Bea and Opie), the Sanfords (Fred, Lamont and Aunt Esther) or the Clampetts (Jed, Granny, Elie-Mae and Jethro)?
For two weeks, beginning Saturday, October 18 and leading up to election weekend, viewers will have the opportunity to go to tvland.com to vote on their favorite TV Land clan after viewing clips featuring the contending families at their best...and their worst.
So whether they are having each other’s backs or sticking a knife in it, our contenders always come together in the end to cut through the red tape and bring the laughter.

Sounds like another boring month at TV Land. They're really giving The Cosby Show some good airings in October and November. They obviously want it to be their next MASH.

Why couldn't they include some other families in the voting thing? Is there an option to choose None of the Above?-LOL

Pavan

Three options to vote, similar to Democrat, Republican and Independent. I would say Sanfords are the Democrats, Taylors the Republicans and the Clampetts the Indies.

I see they're having another "Overstuffed Thanksgiving Weekend." Is TVLAND going to be showing Thanksgiving episodes of all these shows or is it just random episodes for the marathons, with one or two Thanksgiving-themed episodes thrown in?

OK...I don't understand why they would put "Thanksgiving" in the title of their marathons if they aren't airing any Thanksgiving episodes. Maybe they will have a last-minute marathon from 9pm-12am on Thanksgiving night, showing actual Thanksgiving-themed episodes.

FAVORITE TV FAMILIES GO HEAD-TO-HEAD FOR THE TITLE OF "FIRST FAMILY" AT TVLAND.COM

Network Reveals Newly Elected "First Family" of TV Land With Marathon on Sunday, November 2

New York, NY, October 27, 2008 -- Are the endless commentaries from all the TV political pundits zapping all the excitement out of Election Day for you? If so, TV Land is inviting viewers to take a break and enjoy some entertainment by taking part in another kind of election! Beginning immediately, the network invites viewers to log onto TVLand.com to vote for their favorite television family to crown them the "First Family." I guess we spoke too soon-LOL. Seems like 3rd Rock is doing really well for them.

Weird schedule change with HH and Beaver. TV Land seems to have a love-hate relationship with Beaver - either it gets it a good slot, or it doesn't. I'm surprised to see it airing at 5pm, though.

The ratings have been horrible. The numbers I can see are general ratings and since TV Land Prime has begun, they have not been in the top 25 Cable Channels. They did this wrong. I understand why they were doing it but they could have done it a little different and not alienate all of the viewers. Also the fact that they change the line up on a daily basis, program guides are always wrong. TV Land had a good thing going. Yes, the demos are a little old and could not make the money that they needed. There was a way to make this successful and instead, lost most of the viewers. What a shame!!

In my opinion:

-Nobody will be watching Scrubs at 7AM
-What is the deal with Cosby Show; what makes it so great that it must be on for 2 straight hours?
-CSI? That's totally random.

My opinions will probably change soon though as these changes don't appear to be finalized.

JulieSomoski

It's pretty obvious which shows are doing well, and which ones aren't, along with other things. The Cosby Show and 3rd Rock have obviously exceeded TV Land's standards. Not surprised about Cosby at all, but 3rd Rock is definitely a surprised hit. On the other hand, Scrubs and Extreme Makeover are definitely not living up the expectations. EM has already been shifted around the schedule far too many times, and Scrubs out of PRIME is basically the end of it - the same thing happened with Just Shoot Me, and now its gone.

CSI must have done well for that one-time airing, because it wouldn't be back if it didn't. Airing for 2 hours totally takes away variety, and I'm not happy with it at all. And its only a matter of time before the classic shows slowly fade away. 2 of TV Land's biggest hits, MASH and Beverly Hillbillies, are either gone totally or reduced to weekends. Not good at all.

I am happy about TC though! :D

What's with the SUPERMAN movies marathon on TV Land? Wouldnt it be better to have the TV series w/ George Reeves as a marathon? After all, the channel isnt called MOVIELAND fer chrissakes! Anyone can get the movies at any video store, however the TV show is significantly rarer.

I'm extremely disappointed in TVL giving up on Scrubs. The 10 p.m. hour would have been good, but I can handle a 7a hour, since I'm watching MASH at that time anyway.

Yes, there is overkill between TVL, WGN, Comedy Central and local syndication, but somebody's got to find a way to make it work!

TV LAND ORDERS MAKE MY DAY

Continuing its push into original nonscripted series, TV Land has ordered a hidden-camera series, "Make My Day," from producer Michael Davies and Sony Pictures Television.

"Make My Day" revolves around people who are unwittingly put through a series of "weird and wonderful" surprises and coincidences set up by friends and family members. TV Land has ordered six episodes of the hourlong series. It's based on a successful format from British production company Monkey Kingdom that aired on the U.K.'s Channel 4 in 2001-03.

Davies' Embassy Row banner will produce along with Sony Pictures TV and Monkey Kingdom. Davies will serve as exec producer. "Make My Day" will premiere on TV Land's primetime schedule next year.

Davies, known for bringing "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" to U.S. shores, recently launched the syndicated Internet vid series Poptub, with sponsorship from Pepsi. It warms the cockles of my classic tv heart to know that Scrubs bombed out along with most of the new shows TV Land has tried to force down the viewers throats. It just makes my day after all the complaints (on the TVL message board) about putting new shows on TVL.

Guess things are bad if they are resorting to paid programming...didn't they do that from 2001-2002 from like 2-4am? Schedule isn't bad. They seem to be doing mostly double takes or blocks. Nothing surprising, except that Hillbillies vanished so suddenly. It will probably take Lucy's morning slot come January.

Double Night Courts in the morning? IT'S ABOUT TIME! Although I love the heck out of 3rd Rock, I'm glad that they doubled up because now they'll cycle through the episodes faster. They've also been running the show out of order lately for some reason.

Wow, paid programming? TV Land must be in a huge depression right now - nothing seems to be working for them. I can no say that EM: HE was a huge bust for them - it went from airing like 4 times a day, to just once a day in the afternoon. But, if you look at this schedule altogether, this could just about be the best schedule they've had all year. We get a great block of sitcoms 8am-noon, the best its been in awhile. And latenights are still awesome - I couldn't be happier to see doubleshots of TC, and Mad About You and Murphy Brown daily.

4 episodes of TAGS, Cosby, and 3rd Rock is a bit too much, though.

I seem to remember the paid programming in late 2001, too. At the time, it was explained as a temporary move to generate projected revenues for the fourth quarter. With the economy in the dumper, it will be interesting to see if this continues into 2009. Several years back, TV Land tried to assert its uniqueness by scoffing at paid programs and reality shows in their advertising. Oh, well, it you can't beat 'em...

Also, while no one has mentioned it here, the TV Land Prime logo deemphasizes the words "TV Land" so much that I can't help but wonder if they are leaning toward redubbing the network as "Prime" (as in prime of your life baby boomers) sometime down the road as the classic programs continue to disappear. It certainly would follow the pattern of how they began as "Nick at Nite's TV Land" and later deemphasized the sister network.
