View Full Version : Nicest celebrities you've ever met?
MusicJunkie 09-23-2008, 09:49 PM A few nights ago, I went and saw Margaret Cho when she came to Louisville (and had second row tickets!!!). While I wasn't too impressed with her act this tour around, none of that mattered to after the show. My friend Adam, his friend and I went to the stage door after the show let out and she came out about 5 minutes later. I've met a few celebrities before (I met Keith Strickland from the B-52's a few months ago) but I have never seen someone take the time out for their fans the way Margaret did. There were about 15 people waiting outside for her and Margaret had time for every single person. She signed every autograph that was asked and took pictures with everyone. I told her about how I used to watch "Notorious C.H.O." at night when I would take care of my dying mother to put a smile on my face and she gave me a hug and took a picture with me as well as signed my concert ticket. I have never really met an "*******" celebrity (even tho Matt Sharp, formerly of Weezer was sorta rude when I met them back in 97) but I have never seen someone that awesome to their fans before.
Who has been the coolest celebrity you've met?

Schmoopie 09-23-2008, 10:02 PM I got to meet Harry Connick Jr last summer when I saw his concert in Vancouver. I had 2nd row seats and then after the show, they set up a table outside and he signed autographs! Very unexpected, but the coolest thing ever! Of course, I ended up making a fool out of myself in front of him (what else is new?), because I blurted out that his birthday and mine are four days apart (and so are our ages!). Geez, like he really cares. But instead of rolling his eyes, he said "A Virgo, huh?" And he signed my ticket. He was very, very nice, though (even with my stupidity:blush: ). I could only talk to him for a few seconds, so had I been able to stand there longer, I probably could have thought of something more intelligent to say!
Some other people I have found extremely nice are from One Life to Live:
Nathaniel Marston (ex-Michael McBain) is extremely nice, but very flirty when it comes to his female fans. Of course at the time, I didn't mind! ;)
Kathy Brier (she actually remembered that I wrote her a letter telling her that I worked at the Seattle Aquarium! I gave her a necklace that I bought there and left the tag on. She looked at it said said "Oh, the Seattle Aquarium!" I said "Yeah, I work there!" and she said "Yes, I remember you wrote me about that! Talk about amazing!)
Mark Dobis-who played Daniel Coleson (a very bad guy) was extremely nice.
Dan Gauthier (ex-Kevin Buchanan), very sweet. I told him I was from Seattle (he's from Oregon) and he told me that Trevor St John (Todd) is from Spokane. Trevor was very nice as well.
Matthew Ashford (Jack Deveraux, Days of our Lives) was very nice. I met him in Hollywood at a benefit for the late Richard Biggs.
Bill Melendez (or I guess I should say the late Bill Melendez:( -the voice of Snoopy in the Peanuts cartoons) was very nice. My husband and I met him on a cruise back in 2000.
That's great to hear about Margaret Cho. Very sweet story! I love hearing about celebrities who are nice to fans. It makes me appreciate them more!

OH Nuts! 09-23-2008, 10:03 PM I've been lucky in that all the celebs I met have been super nice. I met Danny Thomas when I was a kid and he was a doll smoking that proverbial cigar of course. About 25 yrs ago I met Ann Meara again super nice. And she was very petite in person and had a fantastic figure and very red hair (nothing at all like the frumpy characters she played). A few yrs back I got to meet Whoopi Goldberg twice - and again super nice. She was very laid back. The first time I met her was at a groundbreaking ceremony and the 2nd was during the Aids Walk in NYC. She headed a team and actually walked the whole race - 6.2 miles.
MusicJunkie 09-23-2008, 10:06 PM that is awesome about Whoopi. She's always been a celebrity I've admired and always wanted to meet. Good to know she goes out of her way to be good to her fans. A reason I have never had the desire to want to meet Madonna is the fact that she is known for being a bitch to her fans, same with Babs and Diana Ross. I might enjoy the music of those singers, but I'd rather meet celebrities I'd come away with positive experiences from.
HuntingtonM15 09-23-2008, 10:10 PM Quite a few were super nice: Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Julie Roberts, Mackenzie Phillips, Cindy Williams, Barbara Eden, Caroline Williams, Pam Tillis
Janice 09-23-2008, 11:21 PM I haven't met many celebs, but around 1990, I saw in the newspaper that some soap stars were going to be at a nearby mall, signing autographed pictures. I was big into All My Children at the time. I can't remember his name, but he played Jeremy, and I'm too lazy to google it, lol. He has a French name, Jaque ??.
I told him that my husband Lou and I were big fans of him and AMC. He was so sweet. When I was walking away, he raised his voice a bit, and said, "Say hello to Lou for me." I thought it was nice for him to remember what I said.
I exchanged a few letters with James Mitchell aka Palmer Cortlandt on AMC. He's a dear man.
Hollow 09-23-2008, 11:27 PM i met lacuna coil at ozzfest a few years ago. they were great. it's too bad the picture of me with their frontwoman was sort of ruined by some fat guy off to the side. not really in front of us, but fat enough to steal the spotlight.
Quite a few were super nice: Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Julie Roberts, Mackenzie Phillips, Cindy Williams, Barbara Eden, Caroline Williams, Pam Tillis
It's a shame that Mackenzie Phillips got in trouble again

Apparently that didn't transfer over to his daughter

I wouldn't know about that, Ashley wasn't born yet when I met him. His only kids at the time were David and Megan.

that reminds me, a few years ago the honor choir i was in sang the national anthem at an NBA game and it turned out adam sandler was in the audience. we didn't actually meet him, but when the game was over we got as close to him as we could and yelled to him and he waved at us. it was pretty cool.

Was that the trip where you went to Los Angeles? Because I think I vaguely remember you talking about that here (finding out Adam was in the stands).
Funny thing, that, about my dad and stepmom... they were in Phoenix for a convention for work and ran into him at a grocery store there.
snowcreature23 09-24-2008, 02:14 AM I have met Sara Palin of course she is not a star(yet) We have a appreation day here ebry Aughust Kenai,Alaska and she walked around shaking hands very petite lady she was very nice her kids played with my moms neighbors ids when they lived next door to them in Wasillia,Alaska they(the 2nd youngest came and I think both the kids came to moms house for a vist, And she knows my cosin the ex lutinent govener also, also I have met the late Jerry Reed what a nice man I was working at a local resturant and he gave me a five dollar tip his wife was very nice I had to take out some things out of there room Jerry had to go somewhere and his wife and I talked a little bit, I forgot her name, and country superstar of the 80's Janie Fricky and one of her players we talked a little bit, I said my name and shook there hands and shesigned my magizine about her, Told her my name and I said 'see ya later" lol And Pam tillis just in concert.I don't know if this counts but,on my space Chase Coleman from One Life To Live we write on myspace sending messages to each other. He has not been on there for a little while but, he did do a Law and Order episode.
Schmoopie 09-24-2008, 04:17 AM I met Alan Alda last October and he is a real sweetheart, super nice guy! :)
In 2004, my husband and I went to a play in NYC that he and Gordon Clapp were in ("Glengarry Glenross"). Afterwards, I wanted to meet Gordon, so we stood outside the door and waited for people to come out. Gordon never did, but Alan Alda came rushing out and stopped and waved to everyone (and received a rousing ovation!). Unfortunately he got into a car and it sped away, but I think that was intentional. At least he waved. But you are so lucky to have met him, LuLu! He seems like he wouldn't be anything but nice!

Oh my gosh, I remember him! It was bugging me, so I googled it and found his name; Jean Le Clerc. It's amazing to me when celebrities remember things. It shouldn't be any big deal, but so many of them don't bother listening when fans are talking to them. It's like they are too good to be talked to.
I exchanged a few letters with James Mitchell aka Palmer Cortlandt on AMC. He's a dear man.
Wow, that's really nice of him to write you back! I've gotten autographed pictures from people but never a letter! I would treasure a letter even more!
Those soap celebrity appearances are fun!

Karen* 09-24-2008, 04:33 AM I don't meet a lot of ~huge~ stars, but I do meet a lot of American Idol contestants and So You Think You Can Dance dancers.
David Archuleta, the runner-up from this past season of American Idol (Right side of my avatar) is by far one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. :biglove: I can't even explain it ... but he is seriously amazing. He'll stay there and talk with you no matter how long it'll take (Unless he seriously needs to go, haha) and he talks to you like you've been friends forever. He even gave me a nickname  and also remembered me after a month. I just hope that he stays humble - he's only 17 after all. And I know a lot of Idols change after they appear on the show, sometimes for the worse, so I hope he stays level-headed no matter how famous he becomes.
Wreckless 09-24-2008, 07:58 AM Being far away from where a lot of the celebs are in LA, CA...I've only met local celebrities, mostly sports stars. I met a lot of Flyers, I met Bobby Clarke twice, got his autograph, I met Bill Bergey, former linebacker of the Eagles & got his autograph...Mostly local sports stars that I would like.

You might be far away from most of the action, but you're very close to one celeb I would kill to meet.....the King of New Jersey - Jon Bon Jovi! Man I'd love to meet him (and the rest of the band). I understand he's still very grounded and great to his fans.
Hollow 09-25-2008, 12:44 AM Was that the trip where you went to Los Angeles? Because I think I vaguely remember you talking about that here (finding out Adam was in the stands).
Funny thing, that, about my dad and stepmom... they were in Phoenix for a convention for work and ran into him at a grocery store there.

Big C 09-25-2008, 01:27 AM I don't know if hockey players count as celebrities, but I met some while in Buffalo- Andreychuk, Hawerchuk, Darren Puppa, and Alexader Mogilny.
Other than Angela Watson replying to my letter, I've never come close to meeting anyone in person.
catlover79 10-30-2008, 06:51 PM I have had the pleasure of meeting Colin Mochrie and Wayne Brady of Whose Line several years back and what you see is what you get. Both were extremely nice and FUNNY!! But I have to go here with Brenda and Wendi Turnbaugh, the twin sisters who played baby Grace Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie. Even though they haven't acted since 1982 (Grace was their only acting role), they still attend LHOP related functions and such. I have met them on more than one occasion and am honored to call them friends. I have also met most of the LHOP cast at the Tombstone Film Festival and they are all kind and down-to-earth (especially the men - Dean Butler and Stan Ivar). :D

phoebe7165 10-30-2008, 08:36 PM I have had the pleasure of meeting Colin Mochrie and Wayne Brady of Whose Line several years back and what you see is what you get. Both were extremely nice and FUNNY!!
Niiiice!!! I love both those guys. Loved Whose Line... and I like watching Don't Forget the Lyrics. Wayne is right from my area, one of these days I hope to meet him just to tell him that!!;)
In keeping with the thread, I know I mentioned some of these on other posts, but oh well...
George Clooney - like Colin & Wayne, what you see is what you get.
Jimmy Smits - he took the picture with my sister & I, then said to the guy taking the picture, "Wait a minute, I don't think that's going to come out very well, go ahead and take another picture".
David Coverdale, lead singer for Whitesnake, truly one of the nicest people(not just famous people, but overall people) I have met EVER!!
Lars Ulrich, drummer for Metallica
the guys from Dream Theater, especially their drummer, Mike Portnoy. Met them a few times but Mike goes above and beyond. He certainly knows how to treat the fans. Actually the whole band does.
Dweezil Zappa, just met him a few months ago, he spent more than a half hour after the show, at the stage, signing autographs.
Joel McHale, host of The Soup, just met him a few weeks ago
Gary Cherone, lead singer for Extreme, met him quite a few times and every time, just a warm & geniune human being.
Dee Wallace Stone, best known for playing the mom in E.T., met her at the opening of Universal Studios/Orlando.
Ernie Hudson, Ghost Busters, The Hand that Rocks that Cradle, also met him at the opening of Universal Studios
Louis Gossett, Jr, years ago, I used to play in a handbell choir. Every year, Epcot has the living Christmas tree and they invite a celebrity to come and read The Christmas Story. We were invited to be in the show one year. The backstage area where the living Christmas tree is played was really small, just enough room for our choir while all the other choirs in the show had to go to the backstage area of Epcot. The chairs were lined up against the wall and we were told we could sit in the chairs until showtime. Another girl, Liza & I sat in these 2 chairs and they just happened to be right in front of Mr. Gossett's dressing room. He was the narrator that night. At one point, he came out of his dressing room while we were waiting and started talking to Liza & me. He talked to us for a while, too!!
Brad Russ 10-30-2008, 08:39 PM Pro wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper. Amazing guy!!!!!! Seems like the type of guy who would buy you 10 beers before he'd let you buy him 1. I'm honored to have gotten to meet him!!

spreckenzeedeu 10-31-2008, 12:19 AM Does exchanging Emails count? - Then it is Potsie & Ralph ... I mean Anson Williams & Don Most. Super Sweet Guys :)
InspectorExstead 10-31-2008, 12:36 AM i've only met a couple of celebs, but they've all been super nice. met the all-american rejects and they were soo sweet and down to earth. everyone was going crazy for them/proposing to them but it didn't seem like any of that was going to their heads. also met robert schwartzmann (lead singer of rooney & was in princess diaries) through a friend who's good friends with him. he was pretty sweet/nice as well.
veggie-tari-jenn 10-31-2008, 02:27 AM C.C. Deville from My Fave Band of all time Poison...he rocks sooo much...we had second row tix and he came out for a sound check and I just lost it...I screamed I Luv U C.C. and he let me walk up to him hugg him and we had a chat...OMG...Too AWesome for words!!
Britney Spears...went to a concert with my Bro Joe and we met her in the parking area...she was sooo sweet and nice:)
Fleet 10-31-2008, 05:45 AM I've met and talked with quite a few at autograph shows. Some that stand out as nicest:
Joyce DeWitt :)
Cindy Williams
Johnny Crawford ("The Rifleman")
Dirk Benedict ("The A-Team")
Robert Pine ("CHiPs")
Don Adams ("Get Smart")
ponytail 10-31-2008, 06:52 AM Billy Ray Cyrus. I met him and he is such a sweet guy. He actually looked you in the eyes and talk to you.
Steve Yeager, former Dodger catcher. He's really cool with the fans.
phoebe7165 10-31-2008, 10:21 AM My dad and stepmom ran into Adam Sandler 10 years ago and they say he was very awesome to them.
I saw Adam at O'Hare airport in 1992. He knew we had spotted him and tried to duck us!! It wasn't like we were going to attack him!! When I meet a celebrity, I stay calm and talk to him/her normally, although inside, my heart is pounding. It's after we meet them and they're gone, that we freak out!! I can't believe that nobody else recognized him there, as crowded as that place is. He was on SNL at the time so I'm sure he was already well-known.
phoebe7165 10-31-2008, 10:28 AM Oh, I forgot!! Every Nov. at MGM Studios/Orlando, now called Hollywood Studios, they have ABC Soap Weekend. I haven't been able to get to it the past few years but when I was going, you get to meet just about everybody who's on ABC Soaps. I watch All My Children sometimes, alot less than when I used to watch it. Susan Lucci always shows up for the weekend and she is incredibly nice, as are David Canary(Adam/Stuart), Michael E. Knight(Tad), Walt Willey(Jack), who is HILARIOUS!!. When I went, also met Julia Barr(Brooke) & Marcy Walker(Liza), and a whole bunch of others I can't even remember!!
TripperFan 10-31-2008, 01:36 PM I forgot about the sports guys I've met.
Years ago when I waitressed, Borjio Salming and Darryl Sittler would come into the restuarant at lunch after training. They were the nicest gentlemen you'd ever want to meet. Very classy and down to earth.
I've also met John Avery, who was a running back for Miami, Denver, Dallas, and Minnesota (as well as the Toronto Argos). I thought he was a guy from our Virginia plant just visiting when I first met him and started teasing him. He was hilarious. Then I found out who he was. He's one of the funniest guys I've ever met and I hope his sitcom writing pays off.
ekkostar 10-31-2008, 03:54 PM I can only say that I've met local celebrities, sadly. I've met most of the anchor staff from WCSH 6 (NBC) in Portland Maine and I've met a few DJs from WMME.
There is one local celeb I desire to meet and I haven't met him... yet. John Hopperstad from WGME 13, the local CBS. I'm a huge fan and I miss him on the days when he's not on the morning news. :)
There are a ton of big time celebrities I'd like to meet, but I doubt I ever will. I'll be lucky enough to catch any C or D-listers.
Billy Ray Cyrus. I met him and he is such a sweet guy. He actually looked you in the eyes and talk to you.
Then why do people talk so mean about Miley?
