I taped the uncut episode from TV yesterday. What's missing from the DVD episode is a 2 minute scene at the beginning where Gomer sings a song for the guys in the barracks. It's not a great song and the scene is not really an integral part of the episode, so I guess having the song cut from the episode is not that big of a loss. But still, I oppose these edits in the episodes and they should all be intact and uncut on the DVD's. What's strange is, in the episode Wild Bull From Pampas, Gomer sings in that episode too but that episode is uncut on the DVD. So it is unusual that they cut some songs out of the episodes while leaving others in.

I guess the best thing to do is enjoy the DVD episodes as they are and not worry too much about the edits in the episodes. In the case of Gomer Pyle, the cut scenes are mostly song performances that aren't really integral to the episodes anyway. All the comedy is there, and for me, I watch Gomer Pyle for the humor, not to hear Jim Nabors sing.

I'm not familiar as to which song you've described as being cut. Isn't this a copyright issue -- meaning that some of the songs Nabors sang are public domain material while others would require a royalty to be paid (when released on DVD)?

Anyway, I agree that it's a shame when a "cut" episode is transferred to DVD -- we want 100% complete.

The song he sings in the episode might be called Lonesome Road, not sure if that's the songs title but that's what he sings about- a lonesome road. You may be right about the public domain theory, that would explain why some songs were included in the episodes and others were edited out. Personally I think the whole thing is ridiculous, but it is what it is, if you want the DVD's you have to take them for what they are and accept the edits in the episodes.
