Ok so I have been using flash drives for a year now and like them because of how convienient they are to use. Anyways, I have 2 of them- 1 gig each and they are SanDisk (if that makes any difference). I've been using the 2 as storage to take as many files off my computer as I can and put them on their. This is because I am downgrading my system and I don't want to lose anything interesting or important on the comp. Problem is, I want to fill the whole Flash Drive up to it's full capacity and neither are full but I keep getting this problem. I still have a good amount of free space on both of them but I get a pop up when I try to copy more files on, that says "An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem:

Error 0x80070052: The directory or file cannot be created."

Then there's a cancel option to the right and a "Try Again" option on the left. I keep pressing try again but nothing hasn't changed. Can somebody help or offer me what might be wrong if they have had or heard of this problem before. I will Google it too. Thanks.

(Geez, another problem with me and computer/computer related electronics .)

The write protect switch is turned on. It should be black and slide to one side or the other. Switch it to the opposite side. This should solve the problem.

How do you switch it back? Thanks a ton though, I appreciate it.

what model is it? the switch should be on the side, usually a little sliding tab.

the switch could be broken internally (so moving it may not work - the pressure of inserting it into the reader may be sliding it back) or you could have a problem with the reader - you should probably try it in a different reader and back up all the files on it just in case.

i also wanted to take the opportunity to say that THIS (http://www.amazon.com/KingMax-Microsoft-Certified-Drive-Washer/dp/B001AMI91E/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1222216827&sr=1-11)is the coolest flash drive out there right now.

try this:
- put in the drive, open it up in My Computer so you are looking at the files in the root folder of the drive
- move all the files in the root folder into any folder you have in there so that you have only folders and no files visible
- any files you want to add to the drive either copy them into an existing folder or create a new folder and move that onto the drive

I do use the sliding thing, so I'm confused. It's a SanDisk 1 GB cruzer.

the slider is the write-protect switch, try it one way, then the other.

if you have a LOT of files in the root folder on that drive, that could also be causing the problem; most of those smaller drives are FAT16 and can not have more than 512 (or in some cases 255) files in the root folder. Try moving all your files into sub-folders and see if that fixes it.
