View Full Version : The Soup
Wreckless 09-14-2008, 04:36 AM I was wondering if anybody ever got a chance to check out the show/clip show on VH1 called "The Soup." The guy who hosts it is Joel McHale and he basically reviews in a comedic way, events on shows, mostly reality shows that happened during the week. For example, one clip a couple shows back was from a talk host show where two heavy set women were talking about random things in their lives, then out of the blue, a black cat eating spaghetti comes up on the screen. Nobody in the show realizes it and nobody on the network the show is broad casted on brings up the cat eating spaghetti randomness.  The show is hilarious though! I don't know the times of when it's on daily, but check out youtube for some clips. I will even post some TS clips myself if anybody wants, even the cat eating spaghetti one.
Schmoopie 09-14-2008, 08:03 AM OMG, that show is hilarious! I am very familiar with Joel McHale, mainly because he's from Seattle! He used to be a regular on this show called "Almost Live". It was kind of like a local version of SNL. AWESOME show! I miss it SOOO much! The best part was when they would do the news (Like on SNL) and the "newscaster" (John Keister-he's a riot!) would talk about local current events; like the Seahawks, etc) and make fun of them. They did skits (most of which were stupid, but oh well.... some were hilarious!).
I think it's so cool that Joel's done so well. He was even on a billboard in Vegas, scheduled to do a show down there when I was there to see Jerry Seinfeld! I bet Joel is great in "concert"!
If I can find any clips of "Almost Live" I'll post them. BTW Jerry Seinfeld was even on "Almost Live"! That was before he was famous!
The funniest thing I ever saw on "Almost Live" was on a reunion show about 7 years ago. It was right after Katrina happened and all the criticism that Bush got for taking so long to visit New Orleans. There is a bridge in Seattle called the Viaduct that is susceptible to collapse if a major earthquake ever hits. Personally I think they should just tear it down like they did in San Francisco, but anyway, during the "news" segment, John Keister mentioned that the bridge could fall in a major earthquake.... "and President Bush will wait five days before visiting!" ROFLMAO!!! :brent
Sorry for the attack on Bush there but I found that to be hilarious! Guess you had to be there, huh?
Geez, I didn't realize I had gotten so carried away, but when I saw your topic, I had to say something about "Almost Live".
Here's Jerry Seinfeld on "Almost Live" with John Keister from 1988. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1_WFlPNWvY
Here's some of Joel on "Almost Live"....
In this one he sings... and John Keister is with him...

If you go to youtube and type in Almost Live and then Joel McHale there are a ton of other clips from the show, although since a lot of the jokes are local, they may not be as funny. But most of it is hilarious!
God, I miss that show...

PS: I saw that segment about the cat eating spaghetti! That was hysterical!!!

Yeah, I'm sure he gets a lot of grief about his last name! One of my favorite episodes of that show was when they had the music group "The Presidents of the USA" on, singing "Volcano". They had our then governor, Gary Locke on in a cameo, and he "sang" with them! That was great!
Check this out... it's hilarious!

robyrob 09-15-2008, 09:54 PM the Soup is hilarious, i usually only catch it on the weekends though.
i remember Almost Live from back when Ross Schaefer was the host - Keister was much funnier though. I think my favorite skits were the "Ballard Driving School", "Billy Quon" and the Bill Nye the Science guy stuff.
BarneyFife 09-15-2008, 11:17 PM I enjoy The Soup as well, the host is so funny.
Wreckless 09-16-2008, 01:11 AM Did anybody see the clip of a movie scene where the guy looked like John McCain and McHale was like, this is what McCain is going to say when he gets elected president then the guy on the movie was like "YOU'RE ALL GONNA DIE" in a funny way lol.

I just started watching in 1996, when we moved here and I was so mad when they ended it! I didn't even know they had a different host! I loved Billy Kwan. Those segments were a riot!

phoebe7165 10-04-2008, 03:17 PM Hey guys, I met Joel McHale last night!!
I'm sure you all know that he's on tour and he performed last night at Hard Rock Live in Orlando. Near the end of his show, he said he was going to be hanging out after the show. So a bunch of us stood in line, we waited about an hour, he was doing photos & autographs, but my sister & I just got a photo with him. It's on her phone and she's in Nashville for the weekend, so I'll post it when she comes back. Of course, he was really nice and even gave my sister a kiss of the cheek.
