Our power went out here in Mansfield, Ohio. It just came back on about 15 minutes ago. It was out for around 2 1/2 hrs. We had 60 + mph winds. And there's power lines and trees down everywhere in the area.

Wind storm leaves 2M without power in Ohio

Posted: Sep 15, 2008 03:30 PM

COLUMBUS, OH (AP) - Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland says about 2 million customers in the state are without power in the wake of high winds from the remnants of Hurricane Ike.

Strickland also has declared a state of emergency, which will allow the Ohio Department of Transportation to help local communities remove debris from roads.

Hurricane-force winds of up to 78 mph blew through Ohio on Sunday, causing damage in 84 of the state's 88 counties. At least four people who were hit by toppled trees or branches were killed. A fifth person was electrocuted working on a generator Monday.

Strickland says it will take days to restore power in all areas of the state. About 450 school districts canceled classes on Monday, and one-third of state traffic signals were down.

Thanks :) Teachers and aides sure don't hear that often enough. I've even had people ask me why I even bother working with children who have learning disabilities, ADD or ADHD, Aspergers, and various mental illnesses. I tell them my kids are just as willing and able to learn as the regular ed and "gifted and talented" groups. They just learn a different way or at a slower pace. There are plenty of successful people out there who grew up with learning or attention difficulties or other disabilities.

I'll step off the soapbox now :D

Things at Taco Bell are going good. I'm up for a management position ( team trainer ). @ Yo Quiero Taco Bell. They usually come in, order, and say I don't want any green onions on my food ( ummmm ... we haven't had green onions in about 2 1/2 yrs already, lol ) or do you have coffee here? ( another lol ). Does it look like we have coffee? Do you see it on the menu? Do you see a coffee pot anywheres? ummmm nope. I guess we don't have coffee, lmao.

I got lucky. I still have electricity. However, a lot of the customers at Kroger (where I work) tell me that they still don't have power and aren't expected to for at least a couple more days. We've been selling LOTS of ice.

I'm able to watch my "Wings" DVDs. Not all of my friends are able to watch their "Wings" DVDs. Of course none of my friends own "Wings" DVDs. I'm surrounded by people who don't appreciate good television.

The best part of "Monk" is the chemistry of the cast. Tony Shalhoub (as Monk), Ted Levine (as Capt. Stottlemeyer), Jason Grey-Stanford (as Lt. Disher) and either Bitty Schram (as Sharona) or Traylor Howard (as Natalie) work so well together. And they can be so funny, too. It's not just a crime show, because I admit to not liking crime shows either, but it's a funny, character-driven show. It's still not for you, because every episode deals with a murder and the opening scene to the show usually shows that murder take place. I'm just letting you know why I like it.

i think shows like Monk and Psych are todays' equivalent to the sitcoms that used to be the staple of classic TV.

I got lucky with the power outages too - my power was out for about 6 hours on Sunday and I'm probably one of only 2 or 3 people at my work that have their power back on yet. I was going crazy for those few hours with no TV, I don't think there's any way I could go DAYS without it.

Heading off to work once again, lol. Yesterday I put in 2 extra hours. Making my 8 hr shift a 10 hr shift. It was very busy at Taco Bell because 1. Ohio State had a home game. Columbus, Ohio is roughly 65 miles Southwest of Mansfield, Ohio. 2. Taco Bell is located just off the I - 71 ( Hwy. 13 exit ). I - 71 is the major Interstate running from Cleveland to Columbus. 3. The kids at the Lexington, Ohio High School had their Lexington Band Festival. 4. We had about 7 or 8 bus loads of school kids ( roughly 355 kids ) coming from the Medina, Ohio area.

Hopefully today is a somewhat steady Sunday. I can't stay over any longer than my 8 hr shift. If I do I might fall asleep right there at Taco Bell from all of the tiredness, lol.

ok I just got done watching the new season episode of Extreme Makeover : Home Edition on abc.com, and I absolutely loved it! The episode featured the Jackson family from Maryland. The single mom who has 4 kids of her own. Welcomed her sister's 10 kids into her own family after her sister passed away from cervical cancer. Before Extreme Makeover came to their aid. The mom and the 14 kids were living in 3 separate hotel rooms. Now they are living very comfortably in a stunning and beautiful 2 story brick house. I love what Ty and the designers do for the families in need. I got to witness Extreme Makeover : Home Edition in person back in October of 2006 ( in Dundee, Wisconsin ). A special time for not only the receiving family ( the Koepke family ), but for me as well .. :D

Hi everybody!! What a great thread to say whatever you feel and to keep this forum going!!

Sadly, I haven't been coming on this forum lately whenever I come on SO, and I should more often because the Wings forum is where I started on these boards!!

Wings-related, I've been wanting to tell this story. My sister & I go to alot of shows, and whenever I go to order tickets, of course, I always see where we would be sitting before purchasing. There's a show that we're interested in going to. We have a chance at front row, but as Ticketmaster puts it, it's "limited sighting". I called my sister and told her we had a chance to be front row but it was "obs-vu" and she knew exactly what I meant. She's a Wings fan, too. What a sad pair we are!!!:D

I don't get to watch the show at 6:30AM because I'm usually not up that early and she texted me and told me the ep was the one about Coach Mattay. I love that ep!! I still laugh at the scene where Antonio is trying to carry the couch's luggage through the terminal and he's shuffling his feet and coach is yelling something like "What's the matter, girlie, suck it up!!"

Not Wings-related, I'm off today and I've got to get off my butt and get my Halloween decorations up on my house. I love Halloween and just bought some more lights yesterday(like I need anymore decorations!!). My neighbor who moved in a few years ago, ever since she moved in, she always beats me in getting her decorations up and that bugs me, because I'm out of town alot and can't get them up any sooner. Well, at least somebody else is decorating. For the 1st few years when I moved into my house, I was the only one decorating my house for any holidays(even Christmas) on my street. I would think what a bunch of grouches!!!:D So I have to get out there and outdo my neighbor!!!

OK, I've written quite enough for now!!

Everybody have a good day!!

You're almost right. Actually my real name is Andie, but when I first registered on SO, I didn't want to use my real name as my user name. Before I registered, my sister & I decided to get a dog and we were trying to think of a name. We decided to go with a TV character and at the time, we were watching Friends. We also watched Frasier and the names Roz & Daphne were brought up but neither one of us wanted those. So my sister suggested Phoebe, then when I registered, I went with that for my username. I've always had that name and I had considered changing it, but a few years ago, Phoebe died, and I figure keep the username in memory of her.

Just about done the outside of my house. I'm going to outlight my neighbor!!

I tend to overdo it with the lights, to the point where my house looks a bit "gaudy". All the people who live around me have been living here a while, so they should be used to me already!!

Hopefully Halloween this year will be pretty awesome because of it being Friday night. Much more kids.

I didn't use to always feel this way about H/ween. I lived in an apartment and really didn't like any of the people living there, so at H/ween, I never decorated, and on the 31st, I put a sign on my front door reading NO CANDY.

ok here's the story. It was a Saturday ( one of our busiest days at Taco Bell besides Sunday ). We were expecting a bus with approx. 100 kids on board to come into Taco Bell to eat. Rhonda had to run to the bank to clear up a money deposit error ( which was the banks fault ). Before Rhonda left she asked Trina politely to go out to the storage shed in the back of Taco Bell to get a box of nacho bell lids. Rhonda handed her the keys to the shed. Told Trina she had to insert the key, and turn it towards Arby's which is left of Taco Bell. Trina in turn came back inside 4 different times. Saying in a snotty way I can't get the shed door unlocked. Rhonda who was trying to get to the bank and back before the bus was suppose to arrive told Trina to give her back the keys, so she could go out there and get the lids herself. Rhonda and Trina then went out to the shed together. Rhonda inserted the key, turned the key towards Arby's and the shed door unlocked on the first try. Trina being the way she is said something snotty to Rhonda. And Rhonda told her to go back inside, and finish up getting ready for the bus. Next thing I know .. Trina comes stomping through the kitchen area, there's customers inline up front ( Trina was working the front register ). Tom ( who wasn't clocked in yet ) told Trina she had guests. Trina says I don't give a *****. Walks into the office and refuses to do anything. Then later on after Trina goes home. Jennie ( who's Trina's cousin ) came in for her shift. Amanda ( who's our General Managers daughter ). Asks Jennie what Trina's problem was. And Jennie ( who may I say ) wasn't even there when the whole thing happened. Had the guts to say to Amanda that it was all Rhonda's fault ( I was getting ready to head home when Jennie said that to Amanda ). Monday when I opened with Janet. I asked Janet if Amanda said anything to her about the whole ordeal. Janet said no, and I said to Janet. Just to make things clear. Trina is the one who caused the big riff, and not Rhonda. Like heck if I'm gonna have Rhonda get in trouble for something that was totally Trina's fault. By the way .. shortly after Rhonda left for the bank .. we started to get slaughtered. Not only did we have 1 bus, but we had 2 ... back to back.

ok here's the story. I'm surprised Trina hasn't been fired yet!!! and especially to say something against a supervisor!

I notice you get alot of buses, too. I feel for you. Really I do!!

That's what I've been saying alot. As far as all of the buses. Our Taco Bell is the only one just off the Interstate running from Cleveland to Columbus, Ohio. So we get the school buses traveling back and forth to away games. The races at the race track, the fans going to and from both the Cleveland Indian games, the Cleveland Browns games, and the Ohio State games.

Wow, well, I don't blame them!! Taco Bell is great!! You probably don't feel the same way because you work there. I gave up alot of fast food, but Taco Bell is one place I still go to.

my assistant manager Rhonda and her live in boyfriend are expected to stop by, and drop off a sleeper sofa and a coffee table for me. Right now the only pieces of furniture I have is a air mattress, 2 glass end tables, and a glider chair ...

Today at work I felt so burnt out .. :(

That's what 10 days of work with only 1 day off does to you. Thank goodness I have the next 2 days off, so at least I can get some much needed rest and relaxation before heading back for another 5 days straight.

I feel for ya, Stace. Working in Customer Service is not fun. I just hope no one gives you trouble for selling the last jelly donut, or in your case, taco

I still think there is no excuse for bad customer service, but that's just me :D I've been on both sides of the counter.

How is everybody today? It's such a nice day today. Here in Fla, it usually stays pretty hot until after Halloween, but a cold front came through. So it feels great and I got the central air off and windows open!!:woohoo:

It's freezing cold here right now. I tell ya, in New England it gets too hot and humid too fast and it gets too cold too fast. I wish we could have sunny, dry 65-80 degree weather for a few months.

I guess I should be thankful we're not known for earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, or forest fires. :D

Right now I'm on the search for some sexy Alec Baldwin videos. What can I say .. that man just ( what are the words I'm looking for to describe Alec? ) drop dead gorgeous, lol.

Hi, Stace! I was wondering where you disappeared off to again. Hope work's going well for you.

Wings-related: The school PTO did lunch for us today. What did they bring us? A couple of "big sandwiches"

Hey, I was in your "neck of the woods" a few weeks ago. I don't know if you know but I'm a truck driver and I delivered a load near Cleveland, and then picked up my next load near Dayton, so took I-71 down to Columbus. I think I saw the Taco Bell you work at. I don't remember exactly what exit it was but it was next to a Travelodge.

Then just last week, I was in the Cleveland area again, then I was heading over to Toledo. The weatherman was talking about all the lake effect snow east of Clev. and anywhere west of I-71, you should be OK. B. freakin' S.!!
I then was at exit 205 when I found out I had to go to Toledo, so instead of just going up the the turnpike, I took a few small roads to get up to Hwy 20. 83, to 18, then to 20. 83 wasn't so bad, but when I got on 18, it started snowing, then blowing snow. I could hardly see anything, plus the roads weren't plowed yet. I swear I thought I was going to run off the road. I slowly kept going hoping that once I got up to 20, the roads would be clearer. It was just as bad!! Scary stuff. I slowly made it to a town called Monroeville and parked it. My company's cool about that. If you think the weather's too bad, they don't make you drive. Rather you get to your destination, then have to get somebody to pull you out of a ditch.
