Diane Ruggiero on Friday morning quit her position as creator/executive producer of the new CBS series The Ex List, catching off guard both the network and producer 20th Century Fox TV.

According to Variety, CBS was looking for a "more faithful adaptation" of the Israeli series Mythological Ex, on which its port was based, while Ruggiero was angling to put her own spin on it. Grey's Anatomy's "Jane Doe," Elizabeth Reaser, fronts the dramedy.

Executive producer Rick Eid is stepping up to claim show runner duties. In a statement, CBS and 20th Century Fox TV said, "We are sorry that [Diane] has decided to leave the show but have tremendous confidence in Rick Eid and his strong team, which includes Segahl Avin, the creator of the original Israeli format who will continue to be a consultant."

Production will not be disrupted, and The Ex List will premiere Friday, Oct. 3, as scheduled. — Matt Mitovich
