View Full Version : The Dollar Store
Janice 09-12-2008, 09:31 PM I wandered into a Dollar Store today. I had an appointment with my chiro, and there was one across the street. I couldn't get over the prices. The place was nice too, looked almost like a CVS. I was frustrated because I had no money. I didn't take my purse, and my husband was picking me up. I saw items that were less than half price elsewhere. I'm going back. The cleaning products are almost a giveaway. Everything wasn't a dollar either, but the prices were fantastic.
LuLu Rogers 09-12-2008, 09:57 PM They deffinately have great prices. I like shopping there for everyday things like laundry detergent and stuff like that, you can't beat those prices. Last time I was there I lucked up on a cute pair of flip-flops on the clearence table for $1.
Nighthawk76 09-12-2008, 10:21 PM I guess the nice thing about working in a dollar store is that the cashier can never make you run to do a price check.
OH Nuts! 09-12-2008, 10:27 PM I guess the nice thing about working in a dollar store is that the cashier can never make you run to do a price check.
Good one!
Schmoopie 09-12-2008, 10:27 PM I love Dollar Tree, which is a chain Dollar store. They seem to have more quality items than other dollar stores.
Last year, we had a school supplies drive at work, so I went to Dollar Tree and I found a TON of stuff! I think I spent like $20 (more than I originally intended) because a lot of the items like crayons were in four packs. I was able to open the packages and give them individually. It felt like I had spent a ton of money, but I really hadn't!
Every once in a while I'll go in there and find tons of stuff! That's a great store!

Thanks
When I worked at Target from September '94 to June '99, the cashier supervisors really went crazy with the price checks. There would be times when a product would ring up for $10.99 and the customer would say that it was marked on the self as $10.95 and the cashier supervisiors would actually call us to check on the price of the item.
Janice 09-12-2008, 10:43 PM There used to be one at the Mall, can't remember the name. I would buy all sorts of Halloween stuff, like scary falling eyeball glasses, lighted pumpkin pins, crazy headbands, etc. I'd buy their plastic treat bags, and fill them with all these fun stuff and give them to the grandkids. I'm a step-nana, lol. Each bag would cost maybe 12 bucks, and it was loaded with goodies. Same thing at Easter, only in a basket.
OH Nuts! 09-12-2008, 10:43 PM Thanks

Funny you mention that cuase that happened to me at Target the other night. I bought a frozen dinner that was supposed to be $2.79 and it rang up at $3.14. The cashier was nice and adj. the price. I guess at a place like Target, the prices are probably keyed into some type of data entry program, and someone just made a typo.
Mr. Television 09-12-2008, 10:46 PM We have a Dollar General down town...I shop there all the time.
*InThisMoment* 09-12-2008, 11:01 PM I just went to a dollar store today, actually. LOL I really like the nicer ones, and seeing what bargains I can find. I bought some nail polish today. :p
dawsongirl 09-12-2008, 11:26 PM You can find some neat things at those places, depending on the store. There are some ickier ones, but like Dollar Tree is fairly nice. Not too big a fan of Dollar General. I find better prices at Wal-Mart.

Yeah, I like Dollar Tree as well, you can find some great deals in there.
I also like Dollar General Stores. I buy my toothpaste, paper towels, underarm deodorants, toilet paper and cleaning products there. I also buy some food products there as well. They also have 2 liter bottles of Pepsi for $1.15. You can't beat that at any grocery store in this area.
Wreckless 09-13-2008, 02:38 AM Yeah we have a Dollar tree nearby. Their are a bunch of them located in shopping plazas. Their used to be a Dollar Store where I used to live about 15 minutes away, and my parents bought a bunch of stuff for me as a kid from their. A lotta cool little nick nacks in their.

Dollar Store Advice
1. Don;t buy anything out of the dollar store to eat or drink
It's strictly a store for stuff like hangers, pot holders, cookie sheet pans, towels, detergent, or batteries.
No candy, juice, or frozen food.
The Great One 09-15-2008, 03:43 PM The Dollar Store is a great place. I shop there all the time for cleaning products.

Hawkee 03-27-2026, 04:20 AM My uncle LOVES dollar stores and if you take him shopping at a mall or shopping center with a dollar store he will go in there and shop to his heart's content and he finds anything he can get his hands on in the dollar store. One time when my family went on vacation my uncle took us to a mall and this mall had a dollar store and while my mom and I were looking around my uncle bought a whole bunch of cooking spices and bottles of cooking oil too and we were trying to hurry because we had to go to the mall but my uncle kept buying more cooking spices and kitchen tools but we got my uncle out of the store and my mom and I were giggling a lot. Did you ever hear of a store chain called Six Star Factory Outlet? They were similar to a dollar store and were almost like Dollar Tree and were very big but I think Six Star Factory Outlet went bankrupt in the 2000's
