Hi everybody.

The first Season came out on DVD here couple of Days ago, and I had to bought it right away :D

For me (a German) who has only seen the Show dubbed, it was great Fun to watch and listen it in English now ... with all the German Lines and Words inbetween http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif

But I have a Question for all you American/English People here: When it was on TV or now on your Dvd's :: Do you have Subtitles for these Parts? Or is it clear for everybody what was said? Or don't you care?

No, I have never seen the show with sub-titles. And no, it never really
hampered my getting the jokes that I don't speak German. Thanks for
posting, by the way. It is always interesting to hear different points of
view.

Those short "German Moments" are maybe more funnier for me than anybody else. I really enjoy them! - On the other hand, I never thought I would like this Show in English, cause I'm soooo used to the dubbed Version, but I do. Much!

I never learned German, but of course most people know words like "verboten," "fraulein," "kommandant," and "schnell" -- even though I obviously can't spell them correctly! So I wish I knew German to get all of the lines.

When my dad was growing up, there was a girl who talked a lot and her nickname was "The Gestapo...!" (Greek families, not German.)

Did you use a Dictionary now? Cause they are correct. Except for Fräulein, but that's not your personal Fault. You just don't have the äöü Letters...

And I bet that you learn these Words very fast while Watching, cause they appear again and again...

You're right, Schultz was such a softee and also I enjoyed it when he was able to satisfy his healthy appetite.

Klink reminds me a little of a friend of the family who is similarly follically challenged (hairline).

One reason I watch Hogan's Heroes is to see the appearances of Ruta Lee. She was absolutely gorgeous in the 1960s.

Incidentally, I see you are a Happy Days fan also, and I am too. Currently I'm watching episodes from the final season.

When it was regularly on German TV, I've watched the Show every Time. I'm not sure, but I would say, I have all Episodes taped. The Quality is not the best anymore, so I hope, they will release more of the TwoLanguages Boxes here soon.


Yeah, HappyDays is my favorite Show. And besides Watching, I'm collecting and running a Website...

Although I'm not fluent by any means, I speak quite a bit of German and so I had no problem with the vocabulary that comes up again and again. What I found more interesting was the few seconds of ad-libbed conversation when, for example, Schultz was greeting a shopkeeper or asking another guard about something. Guards would often be played by American actors (for example, Jack Riley, who was later Mr. Carlin on The Bob Newhart Show) and it seems pretty likely that John Banner coached them on how to do a short, simple exchange.

The thing I find most ironic, though, is that Werner Klemperer, Leon Askin, and John Banner had to be dubbed back into their own language after the show was filmed in their second language.

Besides the simple words that were mentioned, I don't know any German, but I wish I knew more so I could understand more. Actually, I wish they would have spoke German more than they did. I've always had a hard time believing that they'd carry on tiny convos all in English amongst each other. Long convos, I see; English audiences need to understand what was going on, but little side things?

I'd like to see the dubbed version with English subtitles. I think that would be a kick.
