Too True (The Division Youngsters)
By, #1_Nancy_McKeon

“John, grab the kids. I told the babysitter we’d have them there by Seven o’ clock.” The voice of a woman rang out in the empty hall. After a moment a little blonde boy runs out of one room across the hall to another, and begins to pound on the door yelling, “Jinny! Jinny!”

“What!?” the voice of a little girl yells before she swings the bedroom door open. There in the doorway stood a six-year-old Jinny. Her hair tangled, she wore a white button up shirt with tiny flowers tracing the neckline, and baby blue overalls. “Let me in!” her little brother shouts jumping up and down in front of her then looks back down the hall. Jinny leans out her door to look down the hall as well just to see John coming toward them.
Jinny looks down to Casey, “What did you do?”
Casey just shakes his head, “I don’t know.” He says still jumping.
“Fiiine.” She reply’s, “Get in there!” she adds pushing her little brother into her room, slams the door behind him, and stands in front of the door.

John continues toward her. “Get out of my way!” he remarks. “No!” Jinny reply’s placing both her palms on the door behind her. John then arrives in front of her. “Move!” he says angry. “No!” Jinny reply’s again more loudly. Now very angry John clenches his fists.
“John!!” the deep voice of their warned when he came from the living room, and saw what was happening between his two oldest children. Both Jinny and John swung their heads in the direction of their dad whom was standing about six feet from them. Dressed rather nicely.
Jinny glanced at her father’s outfit and immediately knew where her parents were heading for the night. “The blue shirt means only one thing, The Moonlight Pier.” The young girl thought to herself. ‘The Moonlight Pier’ was where her parents had gone for their first date, some many years before. Now for as long as Jinny could remember they went occasionally. Her eyes then traced down John Sr.’s arm to the glass of liquor he was holding. “He’s just like someone in the movies.” She thought looking at the uniquely shaped glass in his hand. Jinny, more drawn to the glass than the liquor at that time it was just another drink. She had no need to experience.
“Casey broke my model car!!” John shouted turning red in the face.
“For god’s sake, John, he’s three!” their father responds taking a sip from his drink.
John throws his hands up, and stomps down the hall to his room. Jinny then turns to her bedroom door and opens it. “It’s okay now.” She says into her room looking around for Casey.

Jinny: How do you know I bought you anything for your birthday? Maybe I plan on knitting you a sweater or... give you something much more organic.
Teddy: Well, you do give good organic.
