View Full Version : It's Official, Ghostbusters 3 is Coming!!!
Brian Damage 09-06-2008, 11:33 AM Hollywood knew exactly who they were gonna call. And Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd look like they're stepping back into their Ghostbusting gear alongside costars Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson for a third Ghostbusters movie.
Columbia Pictures is planning to reunite the stars and revive the 1980s story of Manhattan's valiant exterminators of supernatural foes, according a report in the trade journal Variety".
The new picture is to be written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who both worked on bringing Brit hit The Office to the small screen in the U.S.
There is no word on whether Canadian-born director Director Ivan Reitman, who made both the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, would direct any third movie.

I'm surprised that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis aren't writing it, since they wrote the other two.

Good point.
But, I read on a website the other day that they were thinking about doing a Ghostbusters reboot with Seth Rogan and Steve Carrell and they were trying to get the original Ghostbusters back to do a kind of "passing the baton" movie where we meet the new generation of Ghostbusters.
Since this movie is being written by two writers from The Office, maybe the rumors are true.
Brian Damage 09-07-2008, 12:27 AM Either way, I have to admit, I am excited about this project.
Adamantium 09-07-2008, 04:08 PM I had heard (probably from the DVD) that originally, "Ghostbusters" was going to star Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as a couple of ghostbusters, already in business. But due to Belushi's death, it was changed to the movie we got (which I prefer). I wonder if this new film will set up a fourth movie which would be just Steve Carrell and Seth Rogan, which would be like what the first movie was supposed to be.
I'm excited about this. Of course, I have the obvious question... will Rick Moranis, Annie Potts and Sigourney (spelling?) Weaver be in the third film?
What was funny about Rick Moranis was that his bigger role in the second film was reflected in the Saturday morning cartoon as Louis Tully was added.
With all the other 80s movies coming back with sequels, I'm glad that Ghostbusters is one of them.
LuLu Rogers 09-07-2008, 09:30 PM Ghostbusters is one of my all time favorite movies, so I'm really excited about a 3rd installment!! :D
Brian Damage 09-08-2008, 08:05 PM Harold Ramis confirming the forward progress on a third "Ghostbusters" movie (as mentioned earlier here), with Judd Apatow, some of his regular actors and perhaps Bill Murray involved:
"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there.
best,
harold
OK, so we're picturing Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson showing the ghost-busting ropes to Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco and Michael Cera. (Ramis already memorably and warmly played Rogen's dad in "Knocked Up.") Maybe Jason Segel or Craig Robinson fit in there somewhere.
