I wished she and RR man Homer had been written to be old enemies of each other (like Boss Hogg and Uncle Jess on the Dukes of Hazzard series). Instead we saw in the first ep a showing of their first ever meeting. A similar disppappontment is in the way Jed Clampett and his mutual friend, Shad, didn't know each other all along on the Beverly Hillbillies. Or Andy not knowing the Darlings and Ernest T. Bass all along on TAGS. Or Fred not knowing Officers Swannie and Hoppie all along on Sanford and Son. Or Lou not knowing Stinky and pretty Hilary all along on The Abbott And Costello Show!!! There is usually more somewhat deeper dramatic elements to watch people who are supposed to know each other than people who just meet for the first time ever!

I think Homer Bedloe worked at the corporate office in Chicago, so I doubt it would have been possible for he and Kate to know each other since they supposedly lived in different places. Probably he was a new employee that just set his sites on stopping the cannonball as his job to do. Just a thought.

First of all on fictional tv anything is possible, please understand that about all fictional tv and movies! Besides and secondly, the railroad company could have figured that the line was running through Hooterville and Bedlow was originally from Hooterville (if the writers had gone with the more sensible angle and made him originally from there and some one Kate used to know) and had him go deal with the Hooterville gang cause he used to be one of them. More drama bits when Kate discoveres Homer has turned against the Hooterville people (once his own) in a way for railroad. As they wrote it--a stranger is Bedlow and less drama bit for him to be ruthless to Hooterville folk. So what in terms of what he's doing as far as loyalty or familiarity to anyone in Hooterville? At least Paul Henning and staff (who made this and Beverly Hillbillies) were smart enough to make loafer Leif Crick an old enemy of Granny's when he showed up at the mansion in Beverly Hills! Her beefs against Leif were stronger due to their shared past!!!

I agree with you on this, and I like the way it was written. Not a disappointment for me.

A little bit off topic but actor Charles Lane lived to 102. He outlived Bea
Benadaret, Edgar Buchanan, Smiley Burnette, and Rufe Davis. He died last
year. Remarkable longevity.

Charles Lane was a wonderful actor. I remember him on so many shows, he just always seemed the same age to me. I saw him on a show, probably TV Land awards, and he was 100 years old and said he was still available for work. Bea Benedaret died way too young, I just love her voice as Betty in the Flintstones.

And yes it was a real pity about Bea. IMO she did a MAGNIFICENT job on PJ and was an amazing voice over artist!

Me too - Kate Bradley had a real warmth and genuiness abut her, that always seemed to triumph over difficult people.

The only thing that I might have changed abt the show was I might have given Kate a beaux. I sure wish the whole show would come out on DVD.

Well, Sam Drucker was alsways sweet on Kate, it was just kind of subtle. I'm watching my dvd's of the show now and a few episodes back when an old beau came to town, Sam actually asked Kate to marry him. Boy was he relieved when she said she wasn't marrying either of them.:lol:

Well he had good taste! Kate was quite the gal. And Frank Cady did a great job on the show and esp. as Doc Williams on The Adv. of O & H.

The only DVD set I could find was for 20 eps from Season 1. Is there a set out with more seasons Honeybea? If so, where?

I agree that Sam was always sweet with Kate. I can't help but think that if Bea was alive throughout the series, Kate and Sam would have gotten married.:wave:

I'm getting to the last season with Kate with my dvd's. It's kind of sad knowing she won't be on may more shows. I think my next shows to watch will be westerns. I see Wagon Train is releasing a few episodes of the black and whites and I like those best.

Happy viewing. Outside of Bonanza & Adv. of Annie Oakley (one sharp shooter and smart lady) I don't watch Westerns too much but Room 222 and The Patty Duke Show are two that are very big on my wish list (after of course gettin more eps of O & H that I don't have!)

Ah Rich, you don't care for Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Have Gun Will Travel, Bat Masterson, The Rifleman? Petticoat Junction was always a favorite of mine from the very first show. I can still remember the advertizing of the show before it started and how much I anticipated it. I was very young and at a friends house the first time I saw it. Parents didn't have to quiet us down that half hour!

So far I've seen Charles about 3 or 4 times on the Beverely Hillbillies.
