If we apply reallife logic to this make-believe its strange. The show premieres in 1971 and Fred is about 65. Born around 1905. WW1 ended in 1918!!! I thought the WW 1 veteran bit was just something Fred himself made up but in some eps it looks like he really was in teh first Great War!!!!

I think Fred mentioned he fought in WWII not WWI.
