I believe she was searching for a missing relative. I do not know when the story originally aired but my college roommate and I watched it on Lifetime in 1999 or 2000. any help would be great

I chuckled a little when I read this post but the sad thing is, I know I've seen the one you're talking about. For the life of me, I can't place the woman though.

I think so...I really don;t remmeber much from the segment because my roomate was laughing the whole way through it

I do remember a case with (no offense) a very unattractive woman. She had brown hair and her eyes seemed a little crossed and had a large overbite. She had a very abusive childhood and was looking for some foster parents who had been so kind to her. There was an update and she did find them. Her name was Sharon Zelinski. Could that be the one you're talking about.

I was going to say Mary Hinkle. But I really think it is Sharon Zelinski. I don't believe she wore glasses in the segment, but the actress portraying her as a young girl did wear glasses. So that might be it.

Oh thank god. I thought I was the only one who thought she was "looks challenged". I know it's bad, but as thought provoking as the story was, I couldn't help but think that everytime I was watching her being interviewed, that she looked like a deformed woodchuck.

She had a beautiful spirit!

I don't know anything about the segment because I've never had the opportunity to see a lot of the old UM episodes.

However, there is a Cynthia Zelinski, married to a William (Bill) Zelinski, who is now 76 years old, looks like possibly in Laguna Niguel, CA, should Sharon Stevens google herself.
Considering how old UM is now it is likely her parents would be 'up there' in age.

And I don't think anything positive comes from trashing her looks. Even the prettiest of looks can cover serial killers.

Everything is beautiful in it's own way.

If I remember correctly, alot of what happened to her face had to do with what her ******* of a father did to her, which was why she was placed with the Zelinskis in the first place. I can't imagine having my dad or anyone else take a metal belt buckle and slash me diagonally down the face and it not leave some sort of scar......

Yeah, her birth father was a real bastard. I was glad she found her foster parents.

I remember Sharon's story. I really felt bad for her. I was happy she was reunited with the Zelinskis'.

My heart went out to Sharon too.

Secretly, I always hoped that someday the tables would turn and Sharon would be responsible for her father's car and upkeep if he ever became the weaker vulnerable one, THEN she would exact revenge of some sort. You know, SHOVE his catheter in extra hard, stuff like that.

However, she seemed, even after all of her hardships, still a good natured and fundamentally sweet person.

It would just be interesting to know what became of the rest of her family because near the end of the segment she mentions how she might've turned out if it hadn't been for the Zelinski's? They were probably mistreated as well, though it doesn't mention her brothers and sisters alot in the segment, just her.

This segment just got me thinking. Sorry, I won't rant. Such a sad case.....

She said 'she knew no one' as a child.....she probably cut off contact with her birth father though, and I wouldn't blame her.

Oh, and BTW, I found her spirit and heart MORE than made up for her 'looks'.
