The other night I watching the UM episode about Kurt Sova and near the end, a picture of Kurt shows and it seems to zoom in closer. No offense to him and his family but couldn't they have found another picture? The one used in UM was creepy looking.

That happens a lot on UM, and you're not the only one who gets creeped out by the "normal" pictures (i.e., not in the vein of the Tara Calico polaroid) they show of people. I'm not so sure that the pictures are in and of themselves creepy---it's just that you now know that the individual is either deceased or missing, the circumstances surrounding his/her case are weird and unsettling, etc. That's what I think it is.

Plus when they are accompanied by that spine-chilling UM music, it makes it even more unsettling.

Sova's case was, imo, one of the creepier cases presented during the first season. I remember the picture you're talking about. I think the composition of the music along with the imagery made this episode nightmare-inducing. Not to mention how weird the case is on it's own merits sans the creepy UM presentation.

I remember watching this case alone one night, several years ago when I was left alone overnight. Scared the Hell out of me. I think that was one of the first times, if not the first time, I saw it.

I always have to think twice before watching the Kurt Sova segment again. I lost about two nights of sleep the first time I did see it, and I've never really "gotten over" the scariness of it the way I have other segments. Never would I be brave enough to watch it alone at night like justin, that's for sure.

There have been a few other pictures that have been scary for me, too...those pictures of Dave Bocks ("Whistle Blown") kind of make me uneasy, as well as the two pictures of George Owens, and even some of Blair Adams' pictures (although he was actually a pretty good-looking guy, IMO). And of course, the picture of Cheryl Ann Kenney in the Angela Hammond segment, where it looks like she has black holes for eyes.

What was this case about? I don't remember it. Was he wanted for anything?

It would have taken you much less effort to just answer the question, if you wanted to be helpful.

To answer your question MysteryLover, it did air on Lifetime occasionally. No, he wasn't wanted for anything. He was last seen alive at a party and his body was found in a lot near where the party was 5 days later with no signs of trauma and they weren't able to tell what he died from.

Try watching it alone and with the volume turned up really loud. I tried that once and I couldn't move haha

The part that scares me the most in that segment is the whole Kurt-sleeping-in-the-basement thing. I absolutely hate that part where Ken Sova is walking down the stairs---at around 3:30 AM---into that dark, weird basement. Even though I've seen it dozens of times, I still brace myself in the event that I see something that I don't want to. And that whole scenario is just disturbingly strange---it's just so odd to call someone that early in the morning to tell them something like that, or to be sleeping in a dank basement, or to have to come out and search for your son at some shady duplex.

Wait...what picture? The only pic I can think of kurt, is the close up, looks like a school photo---and he's wearing a yellow shirt I believe? If that's the one, I didn't find it creepy---I thought he was a cute kid.

I can't believe crime scene photos of Eugene Kavette were shown in this segment. They showed his body from a distance and his feet (one boot was missing). That freaked me out like you would not believe!

Im with you on this one. What pic are they talking about?! I mean he was a nice looking guy. Maybe I have overlooked something.

Anyways...as most of you have stated UM did use some very horrible pics of people. For me its not that they were ugly, per se, just that they looked like total idiots. Thats sounds mean...I know.

btw...and still on topic. The Sova episode is one that I find VERY creepy and borderline freaky...the story is frustrating to say the least.

I know the feeling and, considering that I have a phobia of basements in general, that scene seriously unnerves the hell out of me.

What's even weirder is that Kurt's real dad played himself in that creepy scene. That poor man having to re-create that real-life event in the investigation.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that had the same kind of reaction. I first saw this segment on Lifetime at night, alone in my room when I was 10. I went into my parents room afterwards because I couldn't sleep after that viewing experience.

Haha yep, it had the same effect on me as well, although discussing it and learning more details about Kurt's case here has made it less scary and more just sad to me. Plus, it's been 20 years since I first saw it, so that's plenty of time to get over the fear aspect.

Revisiting this thread almost six years later, Kurt Sova's picture doesn't scare me as much but the basement and music in the segment still do.

I also like looking a mug shots and other pics of the killers them selves. I try to look deep into their eyes for any sign that they were going to turn out so evil!

Strange but I do... Does any one else?

Thanks Steve. Ive exhausted that page lols! Its even saved as my homepage on my phone. I've look at those pictures a millions times but its always nice to see a new one. It's like another picture to the puzzle to understanding what a person is like, weather that be killer, victim or anything in between.
