I noticed that they screwed up his age here.
In season 2 in the episode where Michael sleeps with Rose's daughter, Dorothy yells at him saying that he has no direction and that he is 29 years old.
In season 3 when Michael is set to marry an older black woman Dorothy mentions his age is 23.
Is this a big mistake here? What is the deal with this?

This poster raises a very good point! I have noticed a lot of continuity errors on this show over the years. This is, by all means one that I was already aware of! And in fact, the error even goes a step farther! In less than two years time, Michael returns to the house of his mother and her friends and announces that he and the older black woman have split up. In this episode, there is reference to him being thirty! This means that he has aged seven years in less than two calendar years! Wierd! Also, in the episode where he married the black woman from the band, she mentioned being pregnant. The first thing that I found strainge was that they never mentioned the baby after this! Even in the episode in which they got seperated, there was no mention of the baby or what would happen to him or her now that he or she is of divorced parents! Go figure!

Yeah, I don't think the Girls' kids' ages were very consisent. Plus the fact both of Dorothy's children are younger than they should be. We know at least one of them should've been concieved when Dorothy was only 17 (which is why she married Stan). Yet both her children are much younger than that. I wonder why nobody ever noticed that.

I don't think that sitcom writers (or any writers for that matter!) realize that fans of a show notice EVERYTHING. I do it myself and especially on the soaps. Those are the worst when it comes to inconsistancy. Lately, I've noticed it happening on my fave (current) show, Monk as well. It's crazy! I guess they figure the fans won't care; and that's a bad assumption to make.

Yeah they do it on my two favorite shows, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show, as well.

Also, neither of Dorothy's children were old enough to go along with the plot that Dorothy was supposed to have been pregnant when she married. She was married for 38 years so her oldest child should have been at least 38 when they first appeared.

Well atleast the remained consistant that Dorothy and Stan had 2 children named Kate and Michael. The names and amount of Blanche's and Rose's children is always screwed up.
